Hey guys -- sorry for all the questions, but this has to be the BEST discussion board ever.

Anyways, completing the planning for the ADRs and seeing alot of posts about food and special accomodations, so here is the question....

I am VERY allergic to coconut -- most of the time I can just see it in things and skip those foods -- but is there something more I should do to be safe.

Also my best friend who will be along for the trip is allergic to shrimp -- not as bad as my coconut allergy but still.

I will bring my epi-pen in case of accidental exposure :)

ALWAYS let the server know you have an allergy! It takes two seconds to do that and could save you a trip to the hospital! Every single day I deal with guests who don't tell anyone they have an allergy and it's very frustrating!!! I don't know how many times a day I hear "We already ate and were just wondering about desserts" At that point it doesn't matter anymore, eat whatever you want! There are often times ingredients in the food that you won't be able to see. Perfect example for you is the Tropical Coleslaw at Crystal Palace. It's made with coconut milk. Sorry to rant, but please, everyone with an allergy, tell your server!!! :thumbsup2

Have it noted on your ADRs when you make them, or call and add it if they are already made. Tell you host when you are seated, and tell your server also. Sometimes the chef will come out and talk to you, sometimes he or she will just direct your server on what to do.

Have a great trip!

Like PP said, tell them when you make your ADR and it will follow you. Disney is the BEST place to go with FA! My daughter is allergic to all dairy, eggs, soy, beef, and peaches when we last went. At every restaurant the chef would come out and talk to us and let us know our options. At a buffet they will tell you what is safe and what isn't. They are very aware of how serious a food allergy can be.

Good luck and have fun!!

Disney is the most accomodating place for food allergies i've found!

My ds' is allergic to tree nuts and coconut and we just tell them when making ADR's and we remind them when we check in. Chef usually comes out to our table or walks us around the buffet to let us know what is and is not ok! They've even offered at the breakfast buffet to make him some fresh waffles or eggs to make sure it hasn't come in contact with anything else.

Just let your server know and they usually get the chef to come out and speak with you. If there is something on the menu you want but it has the allergen in it they will usually make the meal without it for you. With the buffets they also walk them with you telling you what does and does not have the allergen--in your case coconut-- in it and if you want anything that does again they will make it specially for you without it. Also if you let disney dining know when they make the reservations they can put it on file. last year there was even a note on file when i checked in to call the dining department to give them specifics. they are really fantastic, I was floored at how accomodating they were!!:goodvibes

And also when I made my ADR's the Rep gave me an allergy phone # to each place we were eating at. I had the best Rep ever on the phone when I was doing my ADR's ... she was soooooo incredibly helpful!
