I know we should mention food allergies when making ADRs, but how does that work for kids under 3 at buffets? While at TS places, we're likely to order a child's meal for the boys, but not at the buffets. If I specify food allergies, will they want us to pay for a child's buffet for him in order to accommodate his diet? Just wondering...

I wouldn't think so...kids under 3 eat free right?!? I saw a CM showing a guest which foods on the buffet included (I think nuts) the allergy food. I was impressed...they showed, not just told for the guest to figue it out on his own. Don't know why it would be different for a child who eats free.

I don't know how it works for a child under 3.

But for my niece the chef came out and took us down the buffet line and told us what was safe for her to eat. Then said he could make ___________ if we wanted it without dairy.

I made sure all of our ADR's had a note about her being lactose intollerant and I also filled out a form on the DisAbilities Board and sent it in with all of our ADR's.

I do remember a post a while back (4 months or so) with someone who asked the same question, I think the chef came out and did the same thing for mother so she knew what was safe for her child. Check out the DisAbilities Board for more information.

We went the last time when our middle dd just shy of 3. She is the one with food allergies. I had no problems with the chef's telling us what was safe and even making special entrees specifically for her. We were on the dining plan, but weren't charged any extra for her even with the allergies. We did do 4 buffets, Crystal Palace (breakfast), Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner), Princess Storybook (breakfast), and Hollywood and Vine (lunch). Hope that helps!! I found Disney to be one of the best places I have been to when it comes to addressing and working with those with food allergies!!

we also had no issue with the chefs making my DS special meals when he was under 3 and free. I had mentioned it when making the ADRs and they brought it up and had it noted when they say us. I was very impressed. :thumbsup2

Chef's should come out with EVERY meal, buffet or sit down. They were great when we went this past Sept! My son was 2 and a half at the time!
