Hi..have a question. We booked the HDD, this will be our first visit there. I see on the menu, the dessert is strawberry shortcake. My 10 year old gets a rash from strawberries. Did you wait until you are seated to let them know you would like a substitution for that or do they actually have more than just that dessert choice without mentioning this? If I have to ask for a substitution, do you call ahead, or should I just let concierge now, as they are the ones who booked for me? Thanks so much!

I would call ahead and let them know. They will make a notation next to your name. Chances are, when you call, WDW dining will ask you what would be an acceptable substitute (ice cream, chocolate cake, etc). They will also add this information. When you are seated, let your server know. I believe that the HDD shares the kitchen with the Trail's End Buffet, so they will probably just run over and get you something from there.

I agree with the last post to have them make a note on the reservations and then tell them again when you check it. I have food allergies and was able to speak with the chef at every TS restraunt prior to the meal to discuss the ingredients and was offered a safe alternative if necessary. I was very impressed and wished restraunts outside of Disney would be as informed about ingredients in their offerings.

You have to call ahead. Normally that's the only dessert offering. The dessert for someone allergic to the straberry shortcake is a nicely presented fresh fruit plate minus the strawberries. There is no other option to my knowledge.
