How easy is it to have them made food adjustments for counter service restaurants? I'm thinking of Pizza Planet-- pizza with no sauce and only light cheese. Yes, I know that's just dough and cheese, but can they do it or is the pizza premade. Thanks!!

I don't think that there is a lot of leeway at CS places. We spoke with a specialist at Disney that handles food restriction questions prior to our trip because of my nephew's allergies: shellfish--extremely serious, could be fatal, and eggs--not as serious, but still needs to be avoided.

She told us to do our best to avoid eating at the counter service places because most of the food is assembled/prepared elsewhere on property, and they cannot be absolutely certain of each ingredient. For example, she could not guarantee that there would not be egg in the batter at the walk up window at Rose and Crown, but Raglan Road was able to provide egg free fish and chips.

If you need things made to order, you would be better off at TS places for the most part.

Wow, I would have thought that a place like Disney would be on top of this. What with so many children with food allergies. This has me concerned now.

We have a 3 yr old with serious pnut, tree nut, and egg..and then other less serious allergies.

Anyone with kids with allergies have any bad experiences or places we should watch out for?

And what do you do with your epis in the hot weather? I thought they were supposed to maintain a certain temp range.

Thanks,
Ruth

I think Disney is on top of things, and takes food allergies very seriously. They provide a comprehensive list of what foods you can/cannot eat if you need it. We were really limited from CS because of the egg allergy more than the shellfish one. If you are traveling with someone with allergies, it is worth it to get that list of foods from Disney in advance so you can plan. Also, if you tell them when you make your adrs (for TS), they'll note the allergy on your reservation and have someone talk to you about what they can/cannot eat when you get there.

They will make accommodations for you too at the TS places. One really nice thing they did for us at the CG--all the desserts had egg, so they brought my nephew a HUGE plate of fruit, all nicely stacked and decorated. He and his sister were thrilled! They ate the whole thing in under five minutes.

There are people to help at the CS places too. We were in line at Pizzafari behind a family that had an allergy issue. Someone from management came out and went over the menu with them. They had laminated cards with the ingredients for all of the dishes.

Re: the epi pens, that's a little harder. I suppose you could carry it with a gel cool pack. It was not hot when we were there so it was not an issue for us.

Thanks for your resopnse. That makes me feel a little better.

I already made reservations...not sure if it's worth calling back to notate the allergies or not. I will make sure to get a list before we go though.

Just noticed you were in Boston..I'm in Marlborough..small world. Loving the weather this week! Wishing we were going to Disney sooner.

Disney is the most wonderful place in dealing with food allergies. My son is peanut and tree nut allergic.

At CS places they each have a book that lists out all the ingredients for each and every item. Sure it can be time consuming but no different than standing in the grocery store reading labels before purchasing something for home.

At TS places the chef will come out to the table and go over the entire menu or buffet with you. They often offer to fix special items as well or bring out items directly from the kitchen if they are on the buffet near other food items with nuts.

I have never gotten this type of service any place other than Disney. At local restaurants you get the blank stare from the waitress not having a clue what you are even trying to tell her. At Disney you are seated and told the chef will be out in a few moments to discuss the menu with you. Superior service!
