Are food allergic kids charged extra for alternatives to the kids menus? We are on the dining plan. Two kids are allergic, one for sure can't have anything off the typical kids options and the other will maybe have one choice off some of the menus. Anyone with prior experience?

TIA!

both my DD and I have food allergies and have not been charged extra.

No, not extra.

One way to think of it is that like many things, for instance the guest relations counter, Disney offers this 'for free' by ensuring the cost is absorbed by everyone's price. The food *could* be 1% less expensive, but then Disney wouldn't help people with dietary needs. Instead they charge 1% more (who will notice?) and will help. So no, it isn't extra, but it is fully paid for.

Have a good time and know that except where they won't give carb counts (grumble) Disney will help with dietary needs. Don't feel like you're putting Disney out or that you owe them.

As long as you are on the dining plan there is no problem.

If you are not on the dining plan, if you are at a buffet or other "all you can eat" meal there is one price even if it is a special meal prepared/If you are paying out of pocket and you order food from the adult menu you will have to pay for that. However, if there is something that the chef can prepare in a child's portion more than likely the only charge will be at the child's price.

On the dining plan you won't have any problems. The only issues I've ever had are situations where there are special foods available that don't have an equivalent. Counter service gluten free macaroni and cheese, for example. It's only sold at locations that don't sell a regular kid's mac and cheese meal, and it's considered an adult entree. That means it's $6.50 and comes with no sides vs the kid meal version which is $3.99 and comes with 2 sides and a drink.

The pricing on allergen adult meals was erratic too. A burger with a gluten free bun is charged the same as a burger with a regular bun, but a gluten free pizza may or may not be the "standard" price for pizza. That's based to some extent on whether or not there is a gluten-containing pizza on the menu. A special request meal (plain chicken breast with plain veggies) usually was rung up at the highest-priced entree price, but not higher than that.

Once again, on the dining plan - you shouldn't have a problem. The dining plan would cover those meals for your children. It is only when you pay out of pocket that there is a concern.

When we were at Disney the past 2 trips with our daughter with peanut and milk allergies we were accommodated at Character meals without the Dining plan even at Ohana's were the meal is served family style not buffet. The chef prepared her very own Mickey Waffles that did not have milk in the batter and special eggs without milk. At Crystal Palace the chef came up with several dessert options that she could have as the dessert area of the buffet is a "peanut zone." It made for less stressfull trips. Lori
