Food alergy ??

I am very allergic to fish and shellfish. As a child, it was only codfish. Over about the past 10 years I've gotten where I couldn't eat anything that swims!

Manwich has Worcestershire sauce in it, which is made from anchovies. It took me the longest time to figure out all the hidden things that contain fish. BBQ sauce is usually a no-no, but I can use a few of the bottled kinds.

I also can't take vitamin supplements. Seems many of them use ground oyster shells or seafood processing by-products as a source of calcium and zinc.

That is just like me! We never knew I had the allergy when I was a kid, but I would get SO sick for no apparent reason. It wasn't until I was in college that we finally figured it out. I have to be SO careful now with everything. I can't eat BBQ sauces and I stay away from sausage, as sometimes it can even be in that!

It is SO hard for people that don't have a food allergy to understand, and sometimes I feel like a pain when we are invited to someone's house that we don't know that well for dinner, and I question everything.

My allergy has gotten SO much worse, it's really scary to me. Everytime I am exposed in some way, I have a compounded reaction. I am terrified I will eventually have my throat close on me! :earseek:

so far it appears t hat the prednisone seems to be working, the itching is steadily slowing down and the swelling has started to diminish so hopefully this is going to work:)

we are hoping its not going to be areaction to anything she reallylikes to eat, and hopefully it wont affect her position at work, shes missed three days already to alergys since she started and shes still 30 days away from perm. we talked to her boss today and he said not to worry you cant help it if you are sick go home and get well.. so hopefulllly it wont be a problem. they all seem to like her work so far and shes really happy there. she tryed top go ina nd work today and was so sick by the time she got dressed she was crying:(

When I was 18, I developed an intolerance for lactose. :( I love cheese, milk and other milk-based products so it took me awhile to narrow down what exactly was making me so sick. I have since realized I have limits on how much milk my body will tolerate. I can have a couple slices of pizza or a SMALL glass of milk and be alright. But any more than that and it's time to pay homage to the God O' Porcelain for me.

Yes I have developed a lot of food allergies recently. I'm now allergic to raw apples, shellfish, peaches, pears, I've become allergic to a lot of fruits, tree nuts, I can only drink non fat milk or I get really sick. I'm sure there's more I just can't think of everything off the top of my head.

I was the kind of kid who ran around chasing other kids with poison ivy :rotfl:

Well, i got my comeupance when i was 37 and pregnant--poison ivy from head to toe and there wasn't a darn thing i could do about it. After i turned 40 I developed two new allergies--cranberries and pineapple. I have had 2 anaphylactic reactions. You would be amazed at how many things have one of both of those ingredients.

One time my teenage son had made a special drink out of fruit juice and he shared it with me. I sipped it and then asked what it was--I could'nt quite place the taste. It had fruit juice--apple, cranberry, grape, pineapple. My DD grabbed it and screamed, "Are you trying to kill my mother?!" :rotfl: Very dramatic, that one. Benedryl to the rescue. I carry an epi-pen now.

morning update,, she got up thhisw morning just barely itching, took shower to get ready for work,, by end of shower back necl etc bright red,,, we started talking about it,,, seems she opend a new bottle of shampoo saturday or sunday,, samme brand but new bottle, so we are thinking maybe they changed the shampoo , or she has developed an alergy to it,, would explain the itching scalp, the redness on her back, hips, andjust spots on the front, and the reason it affected her hands heavily, off to wally mart today to get suave, we'vealways used that as a fall back shampoo anyway and am hoping thats the problem, shes terribly worried shes becoming alergic to the cats, that would just kill her, coco is her baby girl:)
