rascalmom said:I am very allergic to fish and shellfish. As a child, it was only codfish. Over about the past 10 years I've gotten where I couldn't eat anything that swims!
Manwich has Worcestershire sauce in it, which is made from anchovies. It took me the longest time to figure out all the hidden things that contain fish. BBQ sauce is usually a no-no, but I can use a few of the bottled kinds.
I also can't take vitamin supplements. Seems many of them use ground oyster shells or seafood processing by-products as a source of calcium and zinc.
That is just like me! We never knew I had the allergy when I was a kid, but I would get SO sick for no apparent reason. It wasn't until I was in college that we finally figured it out. I have to be SO careful now with everything. I can't eat BBQ sauces and I stay away from sausage, as sometimes it can even be in that!
It is SO hard for people that don't have a food allergy to understand, and sometimes I feel like a pain when we are invited to someone's house that we don't know that well for dinner, and I question everything.
My allergy has gotten SO much worse, it's really scary to me. Everytime I am exposed in some way, I have a compounded reaction. I am terrified I will eventually have my throat close on me!
