My family and I are considering staying at AKL but have a question about food. We are extremely picky eaters and prefer straight american food. Although we do love Teppanyaki!

Please tell me about the food at the AKL. Well we be able to eat normally for a couple of the meals, esp breakfast???

thanks!

counter service has great normal food. I am like you, and don't like speciality food. I found something to eat everyday. However, due to the fact that it's not a food court, the selections are pretty slim and stay the same everyday.

I am usually a picky eater, also, although I tend to cut loose at WDW! I think Boma is the best restaurant I have dined at in WDW. The soups are excellent, the main selections are excellent and the desserts are excellent. I give it 3 thumbs up! There is also a pod with more traditional American type foods but I don't think you will find Boma's selections to be that odd. You should consider giving it a try.
We haven't dined at Jiko's but would like to one day.
The food court has your traditional fare and it is pretty good.

For breakfasts, the Mara has a great selection of muffins, croissants, even Pop Tarts! They serve a breakfast wrap that is very good (crambled eggs and bacon in a tortilla wrap). They also have bagels and toasters, etc. Plenty of normal food.

I know we are in the minority in this, but we found the food at Boma to be a little too much for us. We all ended up eating the spaghetti and meatballs from the kid's station.

AKL is so gorgeous, you've got to try it. You won't be disappointed.

BK at AKL is not a problem. You can choose from Room Service, Mara or BOMA and find the traditional foods you are used to. As far as diner goes I love BOMA and my DH who is picky will eat at BOMA and find plenty to eat for one night but perfers only one night there. He does love BK there espically all the fresh fruit and muffins, along with the made to order omlets and on and on LOL!

I would have to agree with this statement for my family. DH and I found some things that we liked but overall there were many foods that we thought were a little much for us as well. It was a nice experience but we mostly ate at the Mara. We were at AKL for four nights and never felt that the Mara lacked in choices. We ate breakfast there every morning and lunch/dinner a couple of times. DH and I had Boma one evening. Oh... DD wanted to add that they have a toppings bar for hamburgers etc... (that's an important feature for her ;) )

Overall I agree that the resort is so great with much to offer that it's well worth a visit. The Mara met our needs.

Thank you for your input! I think we might give the AKL a chance next time. Afterall, they have rice krispies!! :)

Bomo's at the AKL is GREAT. No buffet is better at all of Diney in my view with a huge amount of stays. But if you are a totally American style eater than I really would not recommend it. Altough I still think you would really enjoy the selection of meats I could not say you would like the rest of the selection. But please be advise, Bomo's is fast becoming the most popular site for a Disney BUffett and its getting harder and harder to get a PS there.

You will be more than happy with your breakfast choices at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Mara has all your traditional bakery items along with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and i think either pancakes or waffles. Boma on the other hand is outstanding for breakfast. Definately worth the extra $5 - $7 dollars per person you will end up paying for eating their instead of Mara. They have a great made to order ometlette station (or eggs done other ways) bacon, sasauge, yummy breakfast potatoes , waffles and all kinds of delicious pastries. etc. And best of all is the Frunch - their special juice which is out of this world. Try Boma you will be happy you did!
