i just called GCH hotel and asked them for the closest grocery store. they told me that would be Food 4 Less on katella. has anyone shopped here before? any feedback?

is it similar to Von's?

my shuttle guy is willing to make a quick pit stop for us to grab some groceries before dropping us off the GCH.

It's the discount arm of Kroger/Ralph's. The closest similar place I've been is those grocery only WalMarts. It can be like the 99 Cent store in the sense that they have what they have, and you don't usually get a choice of brands or varieties, but it's the regular, full size items that you'd find in the grocery store, just closer to the expiration date, not repacked to a smaller size to sell for 99 cents. There is usually size options if the item comes in several sizes, but the discounts are somtimes 20 cents on a $4.40 item, or the same price as Ralph's. It's not close for me, so I don't take a special trip because it's not worth the savings. They do take shopper's cards and ecoupons if they're loaded.

They also have a lot of Latin foods and you bag your own groceries.
The brands may be more generic than name brands. The prices are lower than Von's.

I have been to the Food4Less, they don't offer a shopper card, even though they are part of Kroger's/Ralphs. (One store will take the others card).

It does have a bit more "larger, bulk" items, but basically a lower priced grocery store.

There is also a Walmart Neighborhood Market right across the street.

Which airport are you coming from?

Long Beach, going down Ball near Disneyland is a Ralph's at Brookhurst.

For those coming form LAX, same store, just have the drive get off at Brookhurst, and head south to ball and the same corner. And then a short trip to the GCH.

As for John Wayne (SNA), I would get off at Chapman, go east to the VONS near Harbor, and then continue.

In general Ralphs prices are lower than Vons.

I tend to disagree, here are my favorite places to Grocery Shop in regards to bargains.

Aldi (On Euclid near the parks)

Stater Bros. (On Brookhurst near the parks)

Walmart (Good if you use their Savings Catcher program).

Then you have Ralph's and the "VONS/Albertsons/Safeway" group, INMO, they are all about the same, depending on what is on sale.

And that is where you will find me (well besides the COSTCO) shopping.

I've used my Ralph's card at Food 4 Less. They advertise ecoupons in the store and suggest you add the offers in the app before buying the items on signs throughout the store.

For the items I buy regularly (peanut butter, soda, english muffins, cereal, paper goods) Ralphs is cheaper. Baking supplies are almost always cheaper at Ralphs too. Other things like yogurt, almond milk and produce will depend on a sale. I have 2 Ralphs, a Vons and a Pavilions about the same distance, so I default to Ralphs. But on vacation, I don't really care if I spend a few dollars more on some items for convenience.

OP, will you have a car and what are you actually looking for? If it's just something like milk and bottled water, there's a CVS on Harbor and Katella. If you have a car and need specialty items, consider going farther to Trader Joe's or maybe Sprout's (would recommend this for GF). Otherwise there's a Ralphs on Chapman just east of GCH and a Vons on Chapman west of GCH, both are about the same distance, and reasonable cab fare or rideshare.

I live in Anaheim, there are a couple Food4Less's in the area and this is the only place I buy groceries. Way cheaper than Vons, you can get whatever you need there.

no car...flying in SNA. our shuttle guy is willing to make a quick grocery stop for us.

plan to get some milk, a case of water, bagels/cream cheese, snacks.

I think you should be able to get those things anywhere. Maybe the shuttle guy can recommend the best place to stop.

So the VONS on Chapman for a full grocery store, should be an easy quick in and out. If you have a Safeway card, it works at VONS.
