Do you eat this or is it just decoration? I know it's edible, but do people really eat it? Just curious.

Some fondant tastes better than others.

My personal experience from cakes I've made: Kids love it!!!!!:rotfl: Adults tend to think it's too sweet and push it to the side.

My friend Mo uses marshmallow flavored fondant...which sounds exponentially yummier than standard vanilla fondant.

You? :lmao:

I like a little taste of it.

EAT! It's much better than crisco icing!

My friend is a cake decorator and she eats the stuff if she has any left over. I don't care for it though.

Depends on the brand or kind that is used!

I've not experimented much with marshmallow fondant but I know others use it and it's pretty yummy.

When a cake that I do calls for fondant, if it's for a part of the cake that's to be eaten, I use a product called Choco-Pan. It smells and tastes like tootsie rolls!

If it's for a decoration that will NOT be eaten, then i'll use the icky Wilton kind of fondant. It's much cheaper than the Choco-Pan that I prefer!

depends on the kind

Marshmallow tastes very good....Wilton- even with flavoring added, is gross

I don't eat it....it's way to sweet for me.
But my son is happy to take all of it that has been pushed aside by everyone else at the table, and eat it all!

I love it!! When it's good fondant it's delicious - when it's bad fondant, it's not so good.

Everytime I watch one of those cake making shows I am completely creeped out by the fondant (which incidently, I don't eat) because they handle it so much. You can't tell me all those tools are clean! I much prefer good old buttercream. You might not be able to do as much with it, but it tastes good and I like how it looks less perfect.

Question for the bakers here: Which is harder to use? On one of those cake shows, the bakers complained about having to use buttercream because they said the cake would be harder to make.

Clearly, I think about cake way too much for a home baker.

forget the tools being clean, I watch Ace of Cakes and those people have their hands all over the cakes, inside and out. :crazy2:

What really gets to me though is there's one girl that I swear gets her hair into every cake she makes. You would think they would wear a net or hat or something, or at least put the hair up in a ponytail.

Yes, that's bad too. It hardly seems like cake by the time they're throught with it.

I don't like having to chew icing. Fondant has too much of a doughy consistency. Give me buttercream any day.
