"Following" Someone

OK so I am guessing we all have the same follower Mickey or Mikey I dont remember the User Name. I understand he wants to talk to someone. This poster aside, what if I dont want others following me? Is there a way for me to block followers? Do the followers get notifications every time we post? Can I be unfollowed?

Thanks all!

Let me see if I can help ease minds by clarifying the 'follow' feature here on the boards.

The 'follow' option does not provide anyone with any additional info that they wouldn't be able to see by simply clicking on any poster's profile; it just lets the person [who followed you] know that you've posted something. That's all.

We also have an 'ignore' feature if you do not want to see posts from a certain poster.

Please remember to be kind and if we can answer any additional questions you have, send an email to admin@wdwinfo.com.

Thanks!

If you have someone on ignore, can they follow you?

I really don't think you can prevent someone from following you. Like many others, I wish there was a way, and that has nothing to do with the recent activity.

What's odd is the poster I think we're all talking about is following me and I didn't even post on his or her threads.

I did a bit of research on this today....'following' on the DIS is no different from following someone on Facebook or Twitter. There's a news feed view that you can look at; the posts of those you follow appear on that feed. Just like Twitter, just like Facebook.

It doesn't mean someone is stalking you, or someone is looking at 'secret' info about you. It just means they like what you post. It's a compliment. :)

If you want to see what someone following you can see, pick a poster to follow. Click on their avatar and then click Follow in the little window that pops up.

Now, click on your name in the banner in the upper right part of the page. Select "News Feed."
It's just a filtered view that only shows you the posts of people you follow.

You can't prevent someone from following you, but again, they don't have access to anything that's not publicly available on the site anyways. @Lynne M gave a great example in the post above this one. Thanks, Lynne! :)

Neither did I?

Thank you for your post. I think this thread is kind. I am only saying that since you made a point to bold it. Was something said otherwise that was deleted? Im honestly asking since Although Im 49 do not have FB, Twitter, etc. Not being snarky :)

I didnt respond on the posters thread so thought it was odd that out of no where Im being followed. We dont even share anything in common. Also, Ive been around since about 1998 and there have been a handful of people pretending to be someone they really arent. Not at all saying this is the case but Im not trusting by nature.

I appreciate your taking the time to explain this to us/me but its too bad hhat every single time I post something anyone following me sees I have a new post. Could there be a button we click if we dont want to be followed or friends? Just asking. I do love the dis and it is what it is but again thanks for your explanation!

Thank you for this. So when I see that a user name "likes" something at the bottom of a post, it means that person is now following someone? I thougjt that was what the "like" button is for?

Got the same notice 2 days ago from this same person!... I felt creeped out as I am old enough to be his mother...but just let it go and forgot about it til now with this thread!...

Nope, there's a separate Follow button. I see where the confusion comes in, though, because on Facebook, if you Like a page, you're following it, and it shows up in your feed.

Think of our Like button on posts as being similar to the Like button on one of your friend's posts on FB. It just tells the poster that you enjoyed their post, agree with it, etc.

Like everyone else, I am now being followed. And I don't like it.

It is one thing if the poster did actually like what I posted. But this poster has liked a bunch of people over the last few days.
They would have had to spend the entirety of that time reading posts to have "met all of these people.

Sorry, but it is creepy. And yes, when I saw that someone was following me, that had not commented on any of my posts, I felt stalked.

It's my pleasure to help out! This thread has been kind and I would like it to stay that way which was the reason for my use of bolding. :)
