So in December of 07 my parents bought me a 6 day, no expiration ticket.

If I'm reading the charts correctly in the "everything about tickets" thread this ticket cost $300.34

I'll be back at Disney this December and would like to upgrade this ticket to a 7 day park hopper ticket which should be somewhere around $413.22

So the question is do I just give them the additional $112 or so dollars or do I have to use the ticket first to "lock in" a price or something since there was a cost increase in 08?

Thanks for any clarification yall can give!

My understanding is you can go to Guest Relations before you use it and give them the extra $50ish dollars to upgrade, they use the current price difference and that's what you pay not what was originally paid for it. But maybe someone else will know for sure as I've never done it myself.

**Now that I actually read it I think it would be better to go ahead and use a day of the ticket and then upgrade. It seems like you'd pay less doing that instead of upgrading before using. Good luck!

im pretty sure you only have 14 days to upgrade a ticket even if it is non expiring

Sorry.... has the ticket not been used yet? Then use it first and THEN upgrade it

Never used the ticket- got it for Christmas and haven't been back since (31days to go!!!)

So it's definately in my best interests to use the ticket before upgrading.

Anyone know if I can use the ticket when I first get there to say goto MK and then that evening or later on in the day upgrade it so I can goto Epcot- or do I have to wait 24hrs or something??

You can put it through the turnstyle and head straight to guest services if you want

As long as it is unused you have 14 days from date of first use to do any modifications/upgrades.

Also, a 6-day NE has a current pre-tax value of $305 once it is used. A seven day NE Hopper has a current value of $388, so the difference is $83 plus tax.

And once it has been through any turnstile the system records it as used and you can then do the upgrade at at park ticket office or Guest Relations Office or Resort Lobby Concierge.

You've got kind of an interesting situation. Since the ticket has not been used you really didn't need the no-expiration option. Tickets without the no expiration option don't expire until 14 days after they are first used. So even if you had gotten an expiring ticket last Christmas you would still have been able to use it this year as long as you use all the days within 14 days.

The no expiration option gives you the ability to use some days now and then keep the remaining days for use on another trip. (Otherwise any remaining days would expire 14 days after you first used the ticket).

Now... I'm asuming that since you want to go from a 6 day ticket to a 7 day ticket that you're going to be going down for a seven day trip and you want to be able to go to the parks every day. If that's the case, then you'll use all the days within the first 14 days and you really don't need the no expiration option (and that's an expensive option).

So, at this point you have a 6 day no expiration ticket that is worth $305. What you need is a 7 day expiring park hopper ticket. The problem is that taking off the no expiration option brings the cost of this ticket down to $278. Unfortunately, when you're doing a ticket upgrade you can't lower the value of the ticket. Instead, what I would suggest doing is upgrading your ticket to a 7 day expiring park hopper with the water parks option.

That ticket would be worth $328, so you would only pay $23 for the upgrade and you'd get 7 water park and disney quest days as well. Even if you don't go to the water parks or disney quest you'd still pay $60 less for the ticket than keeping the no expiration option on there.

Remember that this will only work if you're planning to use all 7 days during this trip. If you'll use some days now and you need to keep some days for another trip then you will need to keep the no-expiration option.

HTH,
Brett

Thanks for the tip- I am planning on using all 7 days while im there this December so that should work out.

Not quite sure why my parents went w/ the non-expiring ticket, but that's what I gots...
