Foam Shields?

My son is having a bday party and the kids will each get a sword, helmet and shield. I have found some decent priced foam swords and helmets. I cannot find a decent priced foam type shield. Do you have any good sites where I can find some? I really don't want to pay more than $5 per shield.

OR

Do you think it is a good idea to buy some sort of foam plates to try to make them? How large of plates can I find?

I've seen them at Michaels before. I'm not sure if they have them now but they have had them in the past. If not, you could make them and they do have large foam sheets there. Foam sheets with some paster board or cut up boxes as backing would work well.

Why not cut the shapes out of cardboard and let the kids decorate them.
If the kids are smaller you can do some preliminary stuff like taping or glueing a handle on the back.
that way you get a craft to keep them busy for a while and something they can take home.
Also, check out Oriental trader, they have some cardboard shape sheilds to decorate.

I looked at oriental trading and some reviews said they are thin. My son and his friends are 8/9 years old and will want to actually USE the shields!

I was going to say this too! I just did this for DS's 4 and 7 for Christmas and they love them. We haven't decorated them yet but they LOVE their shields. I even found plastic handles that were on large boxes I had for other gifts and put them in the middle of the shields for a handle. I did not buy from Oriental trading, I used large cardboard boxes and cut them out myself...
