Flying_ 1 stroller checked, 1 stroller to gate?

I've been on hold with Airtran waiting for a rep for 15 mins already...figured I'd probably luck out with a quicker reply from someone here!

We are going to be flying on Airtran (direct flight) and I would like to check our double stroller with our baggage, and keep our single stroller with us until we board. Is this acceptable, and would I pay the $15 bag fee for the stroller? We have purchased 3 tickets but are only checking 2 luggage bags, I am thinking the stroller could count as my son's "bag".

I've been up in the air all week about bringing a single or double stroller, but figure if we can check the double, it will be picked up and brought to the resort by the Magical Express. We won't really have to monkey with it all that much. But I'll have it "just in case" and might like it when we venture out at night. We are traveling with a 4 yr old and an 8 mo. old.

Anyway...still on hold with Airtran. Anyone travel with them recently and bring more than 1 stroller?

They finally answered- Strollers are FREE ! So- definitley bringing both- can check the double stroller with the luggage and can bring the single stroller with us to the gate

I'm not going to be a lot of help, because I've never flown with airtran, however I've flown many times with different airlines, and I've never heard of anyone having to pay the fee for a checked stroller. I've flown Southwest, Continental, American, United and Delta, and with all of them carseats and strollers are free to check (they're considered to be a type of assistance equipment, rather than luggage.) I would imagine Airtran has the same policy regarding this issue and you should be able to check the stroller for free and gate check the other. Have you tried looking it up on their website- it might be quicker? Good luck!
