Flying with fluid in ear

We just got back from WDW. Two days before we were due to fly out, my DD was sent home from day care with a fever. We brought her to the ped to have her ears checked, as she is prone to infections. She always has some fluid in the left ear and still did, but it was not infected. We asked about flying and were told it was fine.

Both there and back, we gave her Benadryl and Tylenol right before security (since both bottles were over 4oz we had to toss them afterwards) and then had prescription ear drops (yellow label, not sure what they are called) that were small enough to go through security so we did those on the plane. We also had her eat or drink on take off and landing.

Guess what? She was fine. She had no complaints at all, and frankly could not have cared less about the flight at all. I was SO relieved. I hope that it goes as well for you and that you have a GREAT trip.

The 3.4 oz. limit does NOT apply to medications!

You did not need to throw the bottles away; you just had to tell the TSO's that you had them. I always put them in a second ziploc bag (no size limit on this one) marked MEDICATIONS, and send them through in the bin next to my 3-1-1 baggie. It doesn't matter if they are OTC as long as they are medicines.

I too was worried about this. I was the frustrated mom that vented last week about my son's ears. He has had fluid in his ears since Oct. We leave on the 5th of March and I am so worried about his ears. We have an appointment next week and that tops my lists of questions. Does flying with tubes effect the preasure in their ears? I am so worried he will be uncomfortable. Luckily we are traveling with my BIL he is an ER Doc. So at least we have him in an emergency. I am so worried the last thing I want to do is make a bad situation worse.
OP good luck I understand how hard these decisions are. I hope your little guy continues to improve. Do you think they will every appreciate all the worry we do as parents. Probably not until they are parents!!

Wow, wish I knew that two weeks ago! ;)

We took almost empty bottles from home for the flight out, had new ones delivered to the resort and they were almost gone when we left, so no big loss there, but it would have been nice to know this. I even checked the FAA rules online and never saw this exception.
