We are flying down in 10 days and my mom, who is going with us, is a diabetic. How should we take her supplies? She only takes Lantus once a day, so we don't have to worry about multiple types of insulin, and she is taking two pens (one will cover her for the trip, but just in case). Does she need to have those in the box with the script? What about her needles, does she need the whole box for the script? The same for testing lancets. Or can we take what we need and declare it? I posted on the transportation board, and got the link to the TSA information, but still had questions and thought maybe I could get more answers here from people who had experienced it. Thanks!

I am lucky. My pharmacy always prints an extra "label" that isn't sticky. I put those in my testing kit and in the place where I am able to keep a month's worth of meds sorted out for morning and evening. I have a small bag with it's own ice pack for insulin and other things that need to be kept cool. I have never been asked to show the labels, though I have them just in case.

I tend to just pack the everything together in one carry on bag - strips, vials, needles, whatever and pull it all out and indicate it's "diabetes supplies". I have never carried an rx with me for anything. :) You can carry as much as you need. Some things might get a visual inspection, other times they won't even bother.

Thanks for the helpful answers. She is newly diagnosed so flying with supplies is new for us.

We just got a doctors note stating all the supplies that we will be bringing, and that they are medically necessary. I heard as long as one thing has a prescription label then you are covered. i.e. if you have insulin with a prescription, then you obviously need needles, test strips, lancets etc. good luck!:thumbsup2

I am on lantis I just put all of my supplies in a baggie in my carry on I had no problem

I keep everything in its original packaging, including keeping each vial of Humalog I'm bringing inside its little box inside the Frio bag, but that's all. And it all goes in my carry-on, of course. I used to get a doctor's note, but nobody ever looked at it so I stopped getting it years ago.

Hi, I have been a diabetic for 32 years. In saying this I have only been questioned and that was my DCL experience at Port Canaveral. When I was on injectable insulin, (I currently have had an insulin pump).

Tips on packing:

Go to your physician office and get a letter stating she is a diabetic and requires injectable insulin and supplies to monitor her blood sugar.

Contact Disney if staying on property and let them know a member of your property is a diabetic. See if they will provide with a sharps container for any used supplies: glucometer strips, lancets and needles) they do provide this on DCL.

Packing your pens is very easy with a diabetic cooler specifically for pens that can be found in your local chain drugstore. I would also bring at least several days worth of supplies when you board.

Hope this helps, and have a wonderful cruise!
