This will be the first time that I have ever travelled with my kids, 7 & 9. I know that I need my photo ID, but do kids need anything.

Thanks.

at that age you'll only probably need a copy of birth certificate but i would check with your specific airline

You won't need their birth certificate. Children don't need ID. It might not be a horrible idea to bring it - but we've flown with my kids several times - and my son is Korean while the rest of us are white - and no one has said boo.

You WILL need something to keep them occupied on the plane - cd players, books, crayons, gameboys, a portable DVD player, Polly Pockets (although I wouldn't brave all those little pieces on a plane - one of my girlfriends does), travel games, whatever. You'll want some snacks - because a tiny bag of pretzels don't go over well with that set - and maybe haul along your own 20 oz bottle of water or pop. Gum for takeoff and landing (they don't sell it at airports).

Thanks everyone.

Hey Crisi, we don't have it to bad, it's only 55 minute flight from New Orleans to Orlando, direct flight.:wave2:

We are Mpls to Orlando, so its more like three hours for us. Don't forget, you will get on the plane half an hour before you take off - and (if you can manage to keep them from hopping up to stand in line) it will take some amount of time to get off the plane. That hour can be a long time if kids are whining "when do we get there" and kicking the seat of the passenger in front of them.

Since i was reading this thread, i thot i might just post a question here.

I am flying with a 3 yr and 1 yr old and thinking of wheeling 2 strollers in for gate checkin...any idea if this is alright?

As we will be driving in Orlando, we are also thinking of bringing along a infant car seat (the type with a handle which you can carry like a basket) ... wonder if we can gate check that one or we have to check in as a luggage. I am afraid it may get wet/damage cos we do not have any protection for that...

Thanks ahead for any advice.

With traveling with my stepson who is ten, they don't ask for anything like his id since he is traveling with adults.

My dd has never needed anything to fly. But, we always travel with an ID kit we got through a police/Masonic program. It has a photo of her, fingerprint. I know it sounds alarmist but I feel better knowing that if my dd wanders off, we'll have something in hand to provide ID.

Thanks to everyone who replied. My kids made it just fine through security and the flight was great. Although it never occurred to me how many kids would be on a flight to Orlando. Now I know.:crowded:
