Flying with a toddler.

We have 3 kids (5,3,and 1) and have flown with all of them at least twice a year since they were born. For the most part having activities and snacks have been the key to our success. With that in mind - I will add what NOT to do based on our own experiences.

Do NOT....
  • Let the kids stay up late the night before you fly - tired kids are crabby kids, not a good combination for air travel. (I took my at the time 3 year old son to extra magic hours the last night in Disney)
  • Take too much on the plane - some snacks and activities are great but no need to pack a 5 course meal and all your kids toys (wife and I have learned this trying to lug kids and bags onto the plane)
  • Worry if your kids are excited and a bit loud - it happens and most people understand, plus loud giggles beat loud screams! They are after all kids
  • Feel like a bad parent if despite you best efforts the kid(s) have a rough flight - it can and does happen, just do your best to roll with it and remember it will be over soon and the real fun can begin

not recommended by whom?

I would like to know by who aswell. We always get compliments from airline people for using it. It keeps them harnessed just like the car seat. Without it little ones can easily wiggle out of the regular plane seat belt. I have two. Getting ready to eBay one since my daughter is now five.
