I need to sign up for the computer 101 class--traveling with computers... ;)

I plan to bring my computer with me. I know that I will need to pull it out of my carryon to be checked when going through security. Anything else I should know? Does their check take long? It will be me flying alone with my 4yo so I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible.

In the past I've had my son in the stroller (and then gate checked the stroller), but maybe I'll check the stroller so I don't have to deal with it going through security (it's not as if he can't walk, but when he gets tired and grouchy it's easier to push him in the stroller.

Anything else I should know?

You just need to pull your laptop out of the bag and have it go through the scanner.

I can't remember the last time I was asked to turn it on, but it is always possible.

The screeners see lots of laptops, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Traveling with a laptop is easy. As you mentioned you send it through by itself in a bin. They may pull you out for an additional screening where they wipe the laptop down with a swap. It's very quick and easy.

It is a good idea to put your name, address, phone on the bottom of the laptop in the unlikely event someone else picks yours up by mistake.

Thanks! Sounds easy enough. I've just never brought my laptop when traveling, only when driving, so I've never had to pay attention to the details. I'll be gone almost 2 weeks this trip, though, and would like to log on to my computer occasionally.

Grab some Disney stickers and paste them along with either a business card or some other name/address sticker to both your laptop AND the case. All black cases and laptops look the same when you are in a hurry-this way you will get yours and no one will mistake yours for theirs.
Real simple process-we always take our laptop so the kids can play games or watch DVD during the flight.
Just place the laptop on top of your case in one of those bins and away it goes-we have never been asked to power it up but always make sure it is fully charged just in case.

Good idea--true that all laptops look the same and with my luck I'd be the one that grabs someone elses computer. I can always decorate it with my lime green mickeys! :teeth:

LOL-Absolutely-then at least you know that the only other person that could mistake your laptop for theirs would be another Diser!

If your lap top has a DVD player, bring some movies along to entertain you and your little one in-flight. Heck, grab some Disney movies to get you in the mood!

Could be an interesting way to meet another disser!

The battery life of my laptop is so pathetic, even with 2 batteries (2 hours with both batteries). Of course that would be enough to entertain Jake since it's only a 2 hour flight, anyway.
