? flying via toronto

I got 2 different answers from AC.

On return from Orlando:

1. arrive Toronto, terminal 2
carry bags to terminal 1, check them in, go
through security.

OR

2. arrive Toronto, terminal 2
check bags at terminal 2, clear customs, go to
terminal 1, go through security whenever you
feel like it.

I thought that once your bags are checked, you have to go through to security immediately, that way you can't have your bags potentially get on the plane without you. So I would think #1 is correct.

If #2 is correct, then I could potentially leave the airport while my bags have already gone through.

Why do I really need to know the answer?
My family who lives 5 min. from the airport, would like to meet me for lunch at the airport.

#2 is pretty close.

Upon return from MCO (orlando):

Arrive T2

Clear immigration/get bags

recheck bags (drop them off on belt)

go to T1 (or leave airport for lunch, if you have time)

clear security at T1 at your leisure

I think the trick is if you are not on the plane they will pull your luggage.
