Flying to WDW with Epi pens

We are going to WDW in Dec so I have plenty of time I am just starting to think about flying with my dd who has peanut allergy...we will be taking our epi pens of course...What do we need to get them on to the plane? I heard we will need the box?? I have 8 pens between grandmas and our house but I think I only still have 2 original boxes??! Will we need a letter from her Dr? How many do you tak on board? Thanks so much!!

Epi pens are allowed according to the TSA; to be on the safe side, bring a doctor's note.

I always fly with Sudafed for my kids in liquid form. I just put it in a seperate baggie and hand it to a TSA person. Never had a problem with it becuase it is a medicine. I would keep all the epi-pens together and bring the two boxes so they can see the persribed information if they want it. Other than that I don't think it would be a big deal.

I always have the pharmacy put the label on the pen instead of the box. That way I can fly with just the pen.

Not sure about Epi pens, but we fly with insulin and needles all the time because DH is diabetic and never had a problem. We do not seperate it, have a note or the prescription labels. We fly 4-6 flights a year and have never been stopped once.

Get the doctors note, just to be on the safe side. You never know when you are going to come across someone who is uneducated about epis. I carried 4 epis with me. You never know how soon your plane can land and 4 epis will hopefully buy you enough time to get to medical treatment. Make sure you carry your Benadryl also. I had my supplies in a bag tucked under the seat in front of me so they were within reach at all times.

I have been bringing and epipen for years. I would recommend bringing one with in the original box with the script sticker on it just to be on the safe side, but no one has ever questioned me about mine.

I have never had a problem either with the epi pens. Also, to be on the side of caution, I would notify the airline in advance about the allergy, and to also request that the item not be served on the airplane.
We do this since my DS is allergic to tree nuts and on board they announce that someone has this allergy and to please refrain from eating nut products. (Jetblue) I do not know if he has an airborne allergy but I like to stay on the side of caution.

I have a couple of Epi pens for my dd. When I have flown with them (both domestic and international flights), I just put one in my carry-on inside the ziploc baggie. I put the other one in my checked bag. I have never brought the box or doc's note and have never had a problem.

how many i bring depends on the flight.....virginia to florida, i bring 4
cross country to california, i bring 8....but i am also extremely paranoid about it b/c its a peanut allergy adn i dont know if its an airborne allergy or not adn im usually traveling by myself

I always just have them in my purse, never in the box and ive never had a problem. Ive also never had a drs note and ive never had a problem.

Just remember, if you have carry-ons that you're going to be putting underneath the seat adn in the overhead compartment, ALWAYS ALWAYS keep the epi pens with you beneath the seat. They will be much easier to get to if needed

I don't have epi pens but I am another diabetic who flies with injectable Byetta and insulin. I've never had the original prescription box - just the medication and needles. I also carry lancets to use with my test strips. I actually have a letter from my Dr about needing the stuff but I've never been asked for it.

I second notifying the airline. I would do it in advance and when you check in. I have flown on a jetblue flight that they made an announcement before the flight about not eating nut products on the plane. They informed everyone that if they did and the person had a reaction they would have to make an emergency landing and the plane could get stuck at an airport for hours before taking off again. They also made an announcement on the plane and served nut-free snacks only.

I always have a drs. note but have never been asked for it. It just gives me peace of mind. I also keep the box. I also bring the little single dose benadryls as well. It also says on my drs note that she need benadryl as well. But the single dose benadryl is only like a tablespoon.

I also wanted to add to bring travel pack of clorox disinfecting wipes and wipe down the trays and arm rests and seat belts as peanut proteins may be there from previous flyers.

Our first trip with DD last year we called Continental (who we were flying with) and asked to speak with someone in regards to our allergy, we called twice and both times we did not receive any help, we were told to notify when at the gate. We did this, and the woman was NASTY with me, she said "we are not required to remove peanuts from our planes because of one allergy." I was so mad! I had read of certain airlines making announcements that someone on plane has a nut allergy, or creating a nut free zone (e.g. having 6 rows w/o peanuts) and I thought some sort of accommodation would be made. I knew DDs was not airborne b/c she sits across from my mom when she eats, but I was still nervous you know. No peanuts were on that plane, did not give DD any of that food. From what I understand Continental no longer serves nuts, but pretzels that are manufactured on machinery with nuts. So be careful, my advice don't eat ANYTHING that the airline serves.
Good Luck, and don't know if you have ever been to Disney before with an allergy, but they are VERY accommodating, just let them know.

I've been flying w/ an EPI-pen or ANA-Kit (what they had before the pen - it was a prefilled syringe) for >20 years and have never been once stopped or questioned, even in the current climate. No note and often no Rx (they don't always stick it on the tube. and the box is long gone.)

The last 2 Disney trips, I have had my epipens with me. Both DH and I are allergic severely to bees.
I had doctor notes the last 2 times and never needed to even show them. This time I am not wasting my time getting notes and such.
I think they realize if you need them, you have them. I did have the pharmacy put it on the pen though this last time.

My wife has Epi pen and we flew in May and we had no trouble at all never even questioned it going or coming home. It was in the box with label on it.

Hi we have a 10 year old boy with a nut and latex allergy.

we are going to disney in september and this will be his 3rd time with the epipens. the first he was 3 and the next he was 5.

We always get a letter from his doctor and the epipens have never been in the original box but we put them in a plastic container. We let the airline know before we travel and we tell them at checkin but they never even look at them.

We also let someone know when we get on the plane and they will make an announcement to tell all passangers NOT to eat nuts during the flight even if they have taken their own onto the plane.

We only ever take the two epipens with us when we go away as if we did need to use them we would have to take him straight to the hospital anyway.

I am allergic to French Vanilla Coffee (aroma or taste) and that being one of the most popular coffees I definitely have to carry my epi-pen with me. I carried 2 epipens onboard with me (cut the prescription info off the box and stuck in in a ziploc bag, the box was too big to add to everything else I had to carry on). They never looked at the prescription information, but to be on the safe side either have the prescription info or a doctor note.

We brought Dr. notes for the baby's nebulizer and my SS's feeding pump and feeding supplies to be safe too but they never looked at those either.

We have travelled with epi pens before for my DS who has peanut and nut allergies. We have never had a problem bringing them with us. I think when you explain they are emergency medications most people are accommodating. We brought them in the plastic sleeve but not the box and were never questioned.

I do agree to make sure they are readily accessible. We keep them (and Benadryl, too) in my purse so I can get it quickly if needed.

We flew Jet Blue and they were very accommodating about his allergy, allowing us to board first so I could wipe the seats and tray tables with a clorox wipe. They also made an announcement on board for no one to eat nuts/peanuts and they served all tree nut free snacks (they don't serve peanuts on Jet blue).

Sometimes you hear people complain, but I just let it go in one ear and out the other. If it were them or their family member with an allergy they would feel differently. Most people are very willing to help.
