flying to DW - take own mini fridge and microwave?

isn't this the BUDGET board?????!!!!:confused3

No need to be rude about her ideas. I am all for bringing a fridge and never thought of a microwave. I have to say that the link about the hotpot makes me want to run out and get one-which I WILL do! We are going to DL in 11 days and WDW in 11 months and the HOTPOT sounds like a great idea. I just got a coupon for Bed Bath and Beyond too! Now I know how to use it!

We have brought the plug in ice chest on every trip we've taken. We buy non perishables b/f we leave and get the milk, ham, etc and plug it on in when we are close to WDW(since we drive). For DL it seems small enough to pack. I am thinking it may come in handy for tea and soup or easy mac for both trips. heard there is a sale at JCP too- i am heading out!!!:drive:

I wonder what happens to all of the Walmart fridges being left at these various WDW resorts? (Among other appliances.) Next year when I go back and if I'm staying at a value resort I will ask ahead of time and see if I can use one without charge. It never hurts to ask! :confused3

I was told they keep unclaimed property for 30 days. This worked well for my refrigertator swap as POP lost our original fridge (luckily we had paperwork) and they replaced it with another one that was left (by a previous POP swap, no less!-the box was covered in lime green mickeys!)

Also, for those who are thinking about getting a toaster-we did this for the first time last Sept. and it worked out great! :thumbsup2 Even with having the free DDP we used it basically every a.m. I picked up a really cheap one at Walmart ,when I got the fridge, for about $7. It worked great on bread, toast, and pop-tarts.

Unfortunately, when our original fridge went missing, so did the toaster. Oh well, someone's going to add one to the fridge in June :goodvibes .

Geez I didn't know you could bring toasters and such in the rooms. My cousin went in Dec and wanted to bring a toaster oven and I was telling her you're not allowed and you better make sure you hide it when you leave your room for the day so you don't get in trouble and get kicked out. She took it back out to her car every morning, I won't tell her it's allowed after all:lmao:

OP, I'm going to admit that when I read your first post, I thought you were a nut. :bitelip: After reading post #28, I changed my mind. Your reasons for wanting the microwave and fridge make perfectly good sense. Hope you can work it out. :thumbsup2

That is just plain wrong. Coffemakers are not pots for eggs. ewwww

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't want coffee that tastes like eggs or soup. I guess it's a good thing I don't use the coffee makers in the rooms. ;)

We have been on very budget concience trips to WDW and I can understand why you would want to bring these items with you. For us being able to eat breakfast in the room is great but we limit it to cereal bars, poptarts etc. that we don't eat on a regular basis. When the kids were smaller we would bring items like easy mac and the kids loved to nuke them in the food court microwave for a quick lunch while we were at the pool. We still bring microwave popcorn even when we fly because it takes up no room and we get the munchies. I have also found a colapsable cooler to be a great substitute for a fridge. I can't see paying $10/day for one and our family loves POP so no fidge for us. Use ziplocks for the ice and it will help contain the ice as it melts. We changed the ice in the morning and in the evening and were able to even keep milk very cold.

The convenience of shipping/taking a fridge and microwave are overshadowed by the hassle for me. We have just made other food choices while on vacation to still save money and have the convenience of eating without having to eat the same things every day at the food court. besides my kids like that they get to eat food on vacation that I wouldn't normally buy. That novelty works wonders.

I agree. Watch out for the drinking glasses! I saw a show once that talked about the cleanliness of hotel rooms. One of the things that often gets overlooked or not cleaned properly are the drinking glasses provided in the room. They said oftentimes they would just put a new paper cover over them instead of actually washing them with soap. If that is the case, I'd hate to think of how dirty the coffee pots are if the maids don't clean them and guests are actually using them to cook various things.

I do have to say I was relieved last May that ASMu switched to sealed, disposable plastic drinking cups instead of the reusable glass types.
