Flying to Disney..where to put pin bags

We are flying to Disney and I was wondering if we would be allowed to put our pin bags in our carry ons or if they will give us trouble going through security...I don't want to put them in checked luggage.

Any comments....

General consensus in the past has leaned heavily toward keeping your pins in carry-ons. Even before 9/11 many people worried about their bags (and their pins) getting lost.

Best thing to do is to keep your pins in your carry on and let the TSA agent know you have a collection of lapel pins in your bag and offer to have it hand-searched. Odds are when they see a mass of metal through their scanner, they will want to search it anyway. Letting them know ahead of time should make the process smoother. We've travelled since 9/11 and had to have the carry ons thoroughly searched but we were able to take pins on.

I always keep my pins in my carry on bag. I put them on those foam sheets you get in the craft stores and then into see thru plastic zip bags that come from several different items I have purchased in the past. (curtains, socks, days of the week undies) that kind of stuff. I tell them before the bag goes thru the scanner that it is full of Disney Pins. The are amazed, take my bag aside and just go thru it. Then I have a fun time putting it all back in. I guess if you want to do pin trading you have to be willing to get you bag searched at the airport each and everytime. So when they are checking my bag, they are also wanding my daughter (She is a bone cancer survivor) who has a complete knee replacement. That leaves my husband to collect all the rest of the stuff as it comes thru the scanner.

What Ive done is keep my pins seperate in their own bag thats easy to access and I take them out and place them with all my other junk (shoes, jacket, belt) in the gray container and send them seperatly and Ive never had a prob that way and it keeps my carryon from being searched

We pulled them out and put them in the grey bucket like our laptop and cameras. it caused very little delay, they were able to see them going in and through the xray with out any problems, and we were on our way to the world!!

We have flown often since September 11th (usually to WDW) with my trusty pin bag in our carryons. We fly out of Reagan National or Washington Dulles & have never had a problem. They might ask me what is in the bag, but so far that's about it.

I would never put my pin bag or any other valuables(like jewelry or a child's "lovey") in checked luggage.
