flying question

I have a portable DVD player that I intend to bring. Will it be safe in my luggage or do I need to bring it my backpack on the plane?

same question for my video camera.

Never, ever put anything of value in checked luggage, not only on the plane but at the hotel, and while we are on the subject the same applies to anything in a car that is being valet parked.

Yeah, what they said! I've read numerous accounts of valuables being stolen from luggage. I always take my cameras on the plane with me.

We always carry these type of items with us as carry ons on the plane. It is a pain as we check in the night before and then have to lug them arround the night we are staying at the airport hotel in the uk. DH makes us take the portable DVD and the camcorder by hand.

Last year we didn't even use them!!!

1) Even on business I fly with my portable DVD player.
. . . good for hotel rooms
. . . good for in-flight entertainment
. . . good for delayed flights

2) I always put it in the carry-on luggage for convenience.
3) Besides, I don't pack valuables in checked luggage.

Spiceycat, are you staying in a studio? The 1 and 2 bedrooms have DVD players.

I generally stay in at studio, especially for my solo trips.

Ah yes. I forgot that you usually travel alone. I wonder if they have DVD players available for rent for folks in the studios? I have never asked that question.

Definitely carry it in your backpack.

Also, when you go through security, take it out of your backpack and put it in a tray separate from other items. The TSA people will tell you it's fine to leave it in your backpack, but probably 75% of the time they will then want you to unpack and show it to them.

I have the same problem with my LCD projector that I use for presentations. It's certainly permissible to leave those things in the bags - you don't have to remove them like you do a laptop - but you'll save time and aggravation by taking them out.
