DD and 4 friends have booked a trip to Las Vegas flying out of Buffalo. It saved them a lot of money to fly out of Buffalo. Now the person who booked the trip on his credit card realizes that his passport has expired. Can they cross the border using their driver's license and birth certificate? Can they board a plane in Buffalo using the same ID? I sure hope so cause cancellation insurance doesn't cover this! Thanks in advance.

yeppers, all is okay right now. I think that changes in a few months. S

Depending when the departure date is he may able to get a valid passport. Crossing into the US you only need ID and or a birth certificate.
And air travel with in the US, ID and birth certificate is fine.
As long as the TSA screeners don't require you to have one. Wouldn't be the first time a frontline employee didn't know or how to interpret policy.

He had a passport why don't you?

They booked this trip last minute after they finished their exams at university. Blowing off steam I guess. They booked it rather quickly without doing much research. They booked last week and leave on Tuesday May 6. DD is having second thoughts but is determined to make this trip work and have a good time. Thanks for the quick responses. Next year DD and I will be going to WDW to celebrate her graduation from university. I think she is a little unsure about this trip because she is used to me having every detail researched and booked well in advance.

She'll be fine and have a great time ~ sometimes "flying by the seat of your pants" is the way to go. Definitely birth certificates and photo id is okay to cross at the bridge. Passports are only required to fly into the US at this point.

Yes, they just ask for photo id not a passport..we just flew outlast week.

Thanks to everyone who gave me the reassurance I needed regarding my dd's quickly planned trip to Las Vegas. She arrived home Saturday night and had an amazing time. These boards gave me the information she needed regarding passports vs birth certificates & Licenses when crossing the border and getting on a plane, how to get to the Buffalo airport, how much time to allow to cross the border, and a discount coupon for the parking lot at Buffalo airport. Thanks again.
