Flying or driving--which would you choose?

Don't forget that parking is currently $14 per day at the Parks for people not staying at a Disney Resort. (Unless you have an Annual Pass.)

Yeah, I have budgeted $100 for parking( 3 days at Universal, 4 days at Disney) That would be the same whether I stayed in a hotel with a rental car or a townhouse with my own car.

I definately would drive. You can't really rely on those hotel shuttles.
I have heard of shuttles that go to the park only twice in one day and pick up as early as 7 pm so you would miss the fireworks etc..
I am trying to get down south to visit my sister and friend and I am debating driving vs flying and I live in CT. It is normally an 18-21 hour drive depending on the traffic.
I used to try to arrange my trip so I leave here at about 2 pm and miss the NY and Washington traffic, then I drive through the night and arrive at WDw around 8 am, just in time for coffee and bfst somewhere. then into the parks for the day. I can sleep at home, I am on vacation and want to do as much as I can.
But I drive alone and blast the music and sing along, something I can't do when others are in the car.
I have to do my taxes and see if I can afford a short trip this year.

Have you priced out saying on property and being able to use the ME? Someone else posted about 40% discounts in another thread and it might be the same to stay on property with free dining???

We've flown many times in the past, but have driven for the last 5 yrs. We're DVC'rs so I always like to have a car to haul everything down in, like water/beer/sodas and some munchies. Also, with all the current airline restrictions on liquids, carryons, etc, I'm sure I'd screw up something and just don't want to deal with the hassle.

No, staying onsite would be no different than staying in a hotel for me. Actually worse than many offsite hotels. Tiny room, no fridge, etc. And I could get a hotel for $40 offsite. ME would be nice, but it wouldn't help with my 3 days at Universal or help me save money by eating offsite.

I've stayed onsite and it has its place. Just not for me this trip.....
