...last week in August 8/27 - 8/31.

Is this traditionally a peak week? Fares are higher than what I remember them being (but it's also been sooooo long since I've been down there!)

Just wondering if I should just bite the bullet and purchase now (some of the flights seem full judging by the seat availability maps) or if I should wait to purchase about 3 weeks out from my trip? I keep reading about the fare drops, but I'm just not seeing them for my days!

Happy to be going regardless!

:thumbsup2

If you are flying in a month during a peak period, you would very likely have been better off buying your tickets months ago. You are probably going to pay premium prices now, unless a sale pops up (unlikely). You should buy your tickets now.

It isn't a peak time....I found fares that week to be lower than earlier in the month. I booked my air about 8 weeks ago (LGA-MCO down on Jetblue, back on Delta) and I haven't seen fares do anything but go up since.

I wouldn't wait any longer if I were you.

We are flying NY (ISP) - MCO saturday on Southwest. Bought tickets back in April. Could have saved a little if I bought when they 1st came out but paying $1300 for 4 tickets.

Flights are definitely not as cheap as I thought. Got cheaper last Oct. Don't usually go in the summer so was hoping for better pricing.

Being you are only a few weeks away I would bite the bullet and buy. I found the closer I got didn't really help at all.

good luck

I would consider the last week in August during summer vacation right before Labor Day to be a peak travel period.

Maybe that weekend...but in comparison to the rest of August, it looked no different for fares.

In any case, I seriously doubt the OP is going to see lower fares at this point and I'd have already booked by now. (Clearly, as I'm traveling the same week and I booked 2 months ago.)

Drive to PHL or BWI for cheaper fares??

Not sure how many in your travel party, but it might be worthwhile to make a drive.

Maybe stay overnight near the airport the night before???

Thanks for the feedback - that's the cost of a last minute trip, I guess.

I bought today, but I think I was really lucky because the fares actually did go down. Everything that I was looking at for my preferred time range for all three airports (JFK, LGA, EWK) was going to cost me a total of at least $700 - $800 for two tix, and I was able to buy today for $550.

There was an article on another thread talking about how tuesday evenings were the best time to buy airfare...maybe there's some truth to that? :thumbsup2

2 RT NY to MCO for $ 550. I consider that reasonable for such short notice.
