Hey I want to make sure before I pack if i can do this....
Do you know if I can pack the Glow sticks in my carry on or Checked luggage? Nowhere on the pack does it list weight. Any experience with this??

TIA!

You can pack them in your checked luggage. They contain liquid so they are subject to the restrictions in your carryon.

Apparently they look a little threatening when x-rayed. I always get a nice little note from the TSA that they have hand inspected my luggage when I pack them in my checked bags.

I was wondering the same thing. I just decided to bring the battery powered glow sticks my kids have. We aren't checking any bags and I didn't want to take the chance.

We've wondered that before, too... last year (2010) a bag of ours got inspected by the TSA and it did include our glow sticks. But, this year, there was a pack in a bag on each trip there and back (we forgot to use them ;)) and the TSA didn't seem to care.

Glow sticks are fine in your checked bags and IMHO you never know what will trigger an inspection of a checked bag. It could be something they saw or just random.

In your carry on they will be subject to the restriction on liquid, so you can only bring as many as fit comfortably into a 1 quart ziplock bag. You can have one ziplock per person.

Up to date info on the liquid restrictions and all other policies can be found on tsa.com.

2 things -

Careful packing them in with clothes - they'll stain if they break.

Also, my son had a small liquid & glitter filled ball that he had gotten last summer as a souvenir at Hershey park, we went to Hershey and then flew from PHL to Seattle. He had it in his backpack and was not questioned about it on the flight out. BUT, on the flight from Seattle to Philadelphia, security made him throw it away. Not because it was over the ounce limit, but because it couldn't be opened to test the liquid inside the ball. Not a happy kid. I could see that happening with glowsticks since they cannot be opened too.

Good point, same thing with snowglobes - there are signs at most of the WDW shops warning you that you can't take snowglobes in your carry on luggage.

Great tips about packing these in packed baggage. Hand't really considered that they might show up on the x-ray. Think I'll pack mine close to the top in a ziplock bag and hope if they inspect that they stop once they've found out what they are.

I always pack the glow sticks in double ziplock bags.

I have heard of issues with the glowsticks in the 3-1-1 bag because they can't be opened and aren't marked with the number of ounces in them. It seems some people get by the TSA with them, but others don't. So it's best to pack them in checked luggage.
