flying FL to Boston - cheapest airline? baggage?

Need to fly to MA for a divorce (ya yuck)
Looking to fly either Tues Sept 29 or Wed the 30th. Not sure about return - if all goes well Tues Oct 6 or Wed the 7th. So for now will hold off on booking a return flight
What airline will be cheapest for me to fly? Dont usually do layovers but willing to give it a try if not too much time waiting, etc and if it saves me money
Looking at flying a med suitcase and large in checked in baggage. Carrying on tote bag and small suitcase. What airline will be cheapest for me to fly luggage?
yes ive done some research - found Jet Blue direct $119 (one way)
Delta with hour switch for $94. What about Delta's luggage? is it only $5 per bag and I can check in 2 bags now? used to be only 1 checked in bag. Delta direct is $135

It would look like you're doing your homework. Only you can decide which airline is going to work for you. As for luggage costs though...Delta charges $15 for the first checked bag, and either $20 or $25 for the second. Jetblue doesn't charge for the first checked bag, but does charge $20 for the second. SW doesn't charge for any checked bags.
I guess it's up to you to decide which fare, with which airline, based on luggage costs. Good luck.

does southwest allow 1 or 2 checked bags at no cost? what about carryons? small suitcase and a tote bag? might be worth it to go with them even if initial ticket costs more

Barb...SW doesn't charge for ANY checked bags...not one. Well, okay..if you bring 4 bags and check them all they may charge you. Or if you go oversize or overweight. But two checked bags, that fall within the SW size dimensions are free.
Check out SW's site and get the dimensions for carryon bags. You should be able to take a small piece of luggage as well as a personal piece (tote bag or purse) with you on the plane in addition to your checked luggage. I just don't remember the exact dimensions for carryon bags.

even if they're higher for the flight not having to pay for luggage is a big help

Drawback to Southwest is you WILL have to change planes, in Baltimore. With the other airlines, you may or may not have a plane change. At any rate, try kayak.com for most airlines, and southwestairlines.com for it, and compare prices. You're within fourteen days of your departure so you're probably not going to find cheap prices down, but coming back you might.

Depending on where you're going in Massachusetts, you could fly into Bradley (in CT), TF Green (in Rhode Island) or Manchester (NH) for much less than flying into Boston. They're all within about a 90 minute driving radius, so not too bad if it saves you hundreds of dollars in airfare, especially if you really don't need to go to Boston proper. They're all easier to drive out of, as well!

Actually there are a tons of non-stop flights to Boston, Manchester, and Providence through Southwest.

We had 2 or 3 non-stops a day to choose from on Southwest and there are no baggage fees for the 1st 2 checked bags.

We usually take Southwest because they offer non-stops from the MA area.

I have never had any trouble getting out of Logan at all (and I am a transplant from the south). That seems to be the only place in New England where signs are used and the roads were thought out. You are on your own for any other place in Boston.

All of them are pretty equal but I think they are still doing construction in Manchester which can cause a lot of back up on the roads.
