The website "wdwmagic.com" indicates that Flying Fish Cafe will be close for a major refurbishment, beginning Feb. 1st 2016 through November 2016. The only other specification is that "both the kitchen and dining room will be renovated, although no changes to the concept of the restaurant are planned".

I had heard from the FF staff, a couple of months ago, about a such closure and I posted a comment on this rumour on the DFB, following a DFB's review of Flying Fish Cafe:

This refurbishment is longer than the 6-month closure of California Grill. I wonder whether it is related to larger, potential construction work coming to the Boardwalk Inn. It is my favorite restaurant at WDW, in part because the quality of the staff. I am afraid that it may lose many of their talented servers given the length of the closure.

Not sure I would worry about that, unless the servers end up wanting to stay wherever they are sent to work in the interim. Many would likely want to come back.

It's our favourite too! Planning a trip in March, and we were only going to do 4 TS dinners. Flying Fish was a unanimous must do for our group. I hope they don't make any major changes to the menu.

I was so scared when I saw that on WDW Magic! We are going in September and Flying Fish is where I want to celebrate my birthday while we are there. I just saw the end date (not the start date) and was upset. That's an awfully long renovation though!

Any thought on whether the Chef's Tasting Wine Dinner (or whatever it's called) will survive the kitchen renovations? We've enjoyed it a couple of times and would be devastated if it was discontinued.

I hope the refurbishment includes the restaurant having its own dedicated restrooms (instead of having to go into the candy shop next door).

Thanks for posting this info. I may go there on our upcoming trip since it will be under refurb. next summer when we stay again.

By the way what other larger construction work is going on at Bordwalk Inn?

I don't claim that other construction work is going on, but I wonder whether a such refurbishment is part of a larger project. As far as I remember, the 6-month refurbishment closure of the California Grill was part of larger refurbishment of the Contemporary Resort, with apparent (scaffolding around the building) structural work. Otherwise, I wouldn't understand why it is required to close a profitable venue for 9 months. So this is just an hypothesis.

Awwww... Well, so much for FF next trip. Glad I went this year.

I guess this moves a few things up my mental "short list" for next year.

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that the Flying Fish isn't closing for good as I was lead to believe a while back. Our favorite restaurants. We love the staff and the food is always outstanding.
Coming off a cruise on Nov 7th - hoping for a seat at the bar

I have a September trip scheduled and was going to make my first trip to Flying Fish. I was disappointed to hear this and was really surprised by the length of the refurb. It will have to be number 1 for my next trip now.

I hope it comes back better than ever- I've never been impressed (been three times) and after the last time Dw and I had agreed not to go again- maybe a refurb will change our minds

No I do not like this at all. Chef Russell, informed us of the closing last September. However, he said they plan on opening toward the end of September, which I hope is correct, as we were planning on having our 15th Anniversary dinner here.

I thought I had heard a rumor of it expanding into the candy shop next door- and that that store was being moved into the arcade/shop next to ESPN that is also closing soon? Wish I could remember the link to where I saw that information, though!

I wish you could remember too, preemiemama, :laundy:
I am always afraid of places that get bigger. Something seems to get lost. In that case, it would be ambience, although, we're talking Disney...

I found it- www.twitter.com/WDWNT/status/682967888102330368

Jan 1st tweet from WDW News Today that the Yard Arcade and ESPN Club Store are closing Jan 6th (or did?) to "make way for new experiences". Then someone answered that Seashore Sweets was moving so they could expand FF.

Had to hunt for that one! I suppose it is still a rumor, but it makes sense...
