Flying Dutchman at Castaway Cay

Okay, here's a strange question ... one that I haven't seen addressed on the board (at least recently.) My dd is a HUGE Pirates of the Caribbean fan. Huge. So, she is very excited about the Flying Dutchman at Castaway Cay. It wasn't there for our last cruise (2005).

Well, she says the thing she is most excited about doing on our cruise is getting a picture of it. She wants to "get up close to it" and get a good picture of her with it. Well, ideally (in her dreams!!) I think she would actually want to climb aboard but she knows that's not reality!

I've told her that I don't think you can get close to it. But I figured I would ask the experts here and see what I can find out ... What if we rented a kayak or paddle boat? Can you get a little closer? What about the jet ski excursion? She is 14 - can she drive the jetski if an adult goes with her as the passenger? (We have jet skis at home, she knows how and is very safe, but of course we would follow the rules.)

Thanks for any info! I'm just wondering how I can show her a little magic!

There are ropes with floats on them blocking you from getting too close to the ship. With that being said you can probably get closer with a kayak then being on the beach.

However, there is a Disney photographer there with a pretty great camera that could get the shot you are looking for. I took a few shots with my digital camera (6X optical zoom) and they came our GREAT !! My DS uses it as the desktop background for his computer. Good luck.

When the jet ski tour goes out you are as close to it as you'll get, so just have your camera out and ready. However, you can get some great shots of it right when you get off the ship if you don't want to do the jet ski tour.

The Dutchman isn't really that far off the shore that you can't get a really good up close picture of it, or even in front of it. You can also get some great pictures of it from deck 9 and 10 as the ship pulls into dock.

If you walk to Cataway Cay instead of using the tram there is a a special picture spot along the pathway just for taking pictures of the Flying Dutchman. The spot also has facts about the ship and it is pretty darn close. I also believe Jack Sparrow can be found there sometimes.
