I"m going to post this on Transportation as well, but thought you guys might have some insights.
My dad, 83, is going to need to fly home from Ft. Lauderdale to Boston. We want to fly asap, but if he can't get out until May, so be it. The issue is that he is on oxygen 100% of the time. He uses oxygen tanks when out of the house but uses an oxygen converter (or some such thing) while at home. He won't be allowed to take his portable oxygen tank on the plane, and I don't think his tubing from the converter is going to reach Boston, in the air!!!!
Any thoughts as to how to handle this???

Diane, I answered this for you on the Transportation board, so head over there.

There are also some links in the disABILITIES FAQs thread that will help you.
Post # 15 of that thread is about air travel. Post #3 of that thread also has some links about travel with oxygen.

Exactly how it is handled will vary depending on your airline.

I'm going to move this to from the disABILITIES Community Board to the disABILITIES Board where it will get more views from people traveling to WDW.

There are portable oxygen concentrators availble that are certified for flying - one of them is the Sequal unit -google portable oxygen concentrators. He can fly with it, as well as use it in the parks, has a 2 hour battery life (approx). My dad uses it and loves it. Ask his medical supply company. Medicare does cover the rental for such a unit if he exchanges his current unit, or he pay a rental fee for a week or so.
