Flying and Lost ID

Anyone have any exp w/ this? If you have lost your ID and do not have time to have it reissued is there any other way to be able to fly? (he doesn't have a passport)

ETA: Ok, just got off phone with Airtran. Just FYI, they said an original SS card and certified birth certificate would work.

this happened to one of my co-workers last week! she was at the airport about to get on a plane and couldn't find her drivers license! i don't know the details, but they let her on the plane, which i found surprising. her husband mailed her her passport so she could use it to fly back home - the license never turned up. it was a domestic flight, philly to LA. sorry i don't know any further details, but i do know that it has been done!

They are VERY strict about IDs and getting on flights. My wife thought she lost hers and didn't realize it until we were at the ticket counter to get our tickets to Orlando about 3 years ago. After 10 minutes of frantic searching through her purse and carry on, she found it. But when asked if she hadn't found it, they told her she would have been refused a seat.

Can't this person just go to the local state agency that issues driver licenses and get a photo ID? I guess I'm not sure why you can't get an ID???

He leaves tomorrow, you can get a paper temp ID at the DPS here but the actual photo ID is mailed in 4-6 weeks.

Sam's club membership woudl be my suggestion.

I think it may count as a photo ID.

(or costco or bj's or any of those that create a photo membership card).

My SIL flew with her paper temp ID last September from Seattle to San Diego. They told her as long as the paper one has her picture on it it will work. Have him call and ask his airline.

Usually if you do not have a photo ID then you will have to go thru the additional screening at the TSA line so be sure to get to the airport EXTRA early to allow for this.

I work for an airline and you are NOT refused a seat without an id.Its not airline policy its tsa policy. If you do not have a government issued picture id, then you can have a SS card and one other form of id...even if its a club card to like BJ's. And, if you cant come up with that, the airline adds an edit code to make you a "Selectee" meaning stricter security checks on you and your bags both checked and carried on. The only time you will be refused passage is if you are flying internationally and do not have the REQUIRED identification. Thats because the country you are flying to will not let you in and the airline faces HEFTY fines if you are allowed to fly. On this subject...if anyone is traveling to a country that allows birthcertificates as id...it HAS to be an OFFICIAL copy with the raised seal of the government agency issuing it. Hospital copies dont count. I cant tell you how many times I have had to send folks back home for a real birth certificate and they have missed their flights.
