Got an email today to say the flights for Summer 2008 have gone on sale - well I just couldn't resist the urge to book some :cool1: (Haven't told DH yet :rotfl: )

Direct flights from Belfast to Sanford in their new style Economy seats (probably just like a schedule airline economy) for the 4 of us (me, DH, DD will be 12, DS will be 8) :

Departing Friday 25th July 2008
Returning Tuesday 12th Aug 2008
Price: £1587.92

I thought this was a pretty good deal at this time of year :thumbsup2

Never flown with them but don't care - priced a Virgin Holidays flydrive for the same time and that came out at approx £3k :scared1:

Now I just have to sort out a wee low season trip for DH & me using my Virgin miles :woohoo:

So excited I have something booked!!!
:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I have considered using them so many times but the drive up to Glasgow is 3-4 hours depending on traffic. Just priced up 3 adults for dates I want next August £1121.94. Its a bargain but I think I will wait for Virgin Miles and Miney from Manchester. I wish they would start a Manchester service.

Also worth looking at Hotels and Villas with them. I could have added Best western Lakeside to my flights for £24.50/night :thumbsup2

Got our own place to go to Wayne :goodvibes They do have great deals however :)

This is going to save us the flight to Gatwick and a few hours wait on the Virgin flight - Belfast airport is only 45 mins away from us. The big benefit will be on the return trip - we usually have to wait approx 4 hours in Gatwick on our returning flight to Belfast - not pleasant when you are completely knackered and the kids are grumpy from not enough sleep :sad2:

I think I can live with the extra half hour driving or so from Sanford (never been there actually as always flown with Virgin :confused3 ).

This deal was just too good from a local airport :yay:

Sorry, I wasn't aiming the hotels at you just general if anyone else was looking at booking with FGS. I know you have your own place, looked at your site, looks great.:goodvibes

Just had a quick check at the price for my dates again and they have gone up another £200 :scared1:

Anyone looking at their prices had better decide to book sooner rather than later :)

there is a reason why they are so much cheaper than others.
Have you looked at the reports on other web sites all over the internet about the "service" and other problems they have?

I do hope that things go OK for you and you have a great time :goodvibes

Yeah, I know there have been loads of problems and people haven't been happy with the service but it is saving me approx £1k plus no hanging about in London on the way and the way back. I have spoken to local people who have used the service - they just said that they wouldn't go the cheap economy due to no drinks, meals etc included. The new style economy is more like a scheduled economy with all this included.

We are just going to give it a try - if it is horrendous we won't do it again but at this price and from Belfast it has to be worth a try :)

Don't worry - all the details good and bad will be recorded for posting :rotfl:

I would definitely take the risk if they flew from a local airport.
This August for 3 of us was £1100. Virgin was £2,500. Virgin food is disgusting so I would not miss that. Even if I had a 6 hour delay or had to stop over at another airport it would be worth these kind of savings.
Luckily I got reasonable Virgin Miles and Money for £1,600 or I might have driven to Glasgow.
Other Airlines have problems also.

It seems that they fly from Liverpool to NY and Toronto and Manchester to Toronto!

Unfortunately the loads have not been up to expectations:

"Flyglobespan has announced that it will scale back the number of flights it offers between Liverpool John Lennon Airport and New York JFK, less than a month after its launch.

The airline is blaming poor passenger numbers, but says it hopes to restore the daily service.

A Flyglobespan spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, load factors indicate that in the near future we will have to reduce the frequency to four or five times a week. We are currently working out the best way to implement this change to the service.

“At some time in the future, we would like to return to a daily service to New York from Liverpool but our experience would suggest that to make it viable we would have to introduce a secondary stop on the route, similar to our Liverpool John Lennon to JFK flights which fly via Knock in Ireland.”

Passengers on flights that have been cancelled will be offered the chance to fly on an alternative date or a full refund.

The Liverpool to New York service was launched officially at the end of last month by Yoko Ono, John Lennon's widow, and it was hoped that the new link would enhance the city's standing as European Capital of Culture in 2008."

Looks as if the GLA/Boston going the same way as LPL/JFK by dropping down from the current daily to four per week split between non-stop and one-stop via Knock

Just back from Florida flying with flyglobespan from Glasgow using their economy seats and it was just fine. We were 1/2 hour late leaving but 1/2 hour early in arrival and with only one plane going through emigration at that time we were out of the airport at the time we should have been landing.

We hadn't ordered food on either leg but were given a hot meal and those that had paid for meals had the obligatory roll and a dessert with coffee/tea etc.

At less than £250 return I'd certainly do it again and all the people I spoke to on the flight had flown with them more than once. For 8/9 hours of out of my life I can get comfortable anywhere :)

Hi Cynthia
Glad the flights went OK for you. What about the rest of the trip? are you doing a trip report? If not send me a PM how everything went.

Well done. :thumbsup2

That's a great price for that time of year.

I know others have had issues with Flyglobespan, but I must be very lucky as my own experiences with them have been nothing but positive. :)

Have just booked my flights with Globespan for August 08. Although the price did jump by £190-00 since I first inquired, I only paid £1745 for four of us. I was quoted £3000 by My Travel!! My cousin has just flown back from Sanford with Globespan and he said they were great.

I have flown twice with My Travel direct from Belfast to Sanford and it really is hard to beat flying direct from your local airport.

I am wishing for the day that an airline flys direct from Belfast City (5min drive from my house) to the runway strip in WDW itself(near MK)! I can dream can't I?

Good old Geordy Best Airport!!!! About 10-15 mins from us down in sunny Bangor by the sea :goodvibes

I think we will have to dream for some time yet!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
