Flydrive prices

I'm looking to book for 2 adults 3 children ages 13, 11 and 7 for July/August 2012 during school hols for 23 nights.

We were thinking of booking DIY as I can't get the resorts I want and the number of days.

Virgin fly drive is giving me a price of £4600.00 although this doesn't include upgrade to minivan or insurance upgrade.

What do you experienced people think of that price?

Was looking at Continental Airlines and was amazed comparing the prices for this August to go indirect so would be happy to take the cheapest option.

Am I right in thinking that flight prices vary and not to book as soon as flights become available but maybe to wait a while?

I am looking for exactly the same, not certain on dates yet but looked at 12th July for 23 nights, £785pp (3 adults) I won't pay that, yours works out at £920 incl reductions for children, mind boggling prices IMO. adult price must be around £1,000

There is no pattern to flight prices, have you any miles to use? can save a few £ doing Miles and Money.
Many people this year are flying into other airports, either direct or indirect, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville & Daytona prices were from £350pp
Last couple of years I have flown Business class indirect for less money than Virgin economy direct.

We are going with Virgin this year as we are going with relatives on their 1st trip & a 3 year old, next year back to cheapest available.

we cannot even get flights next year for £600 DIRECT LET ALONE £330 for business class?

August 2009 I got Delta Biz class for £470pp, it was a glitch on Expedia, entered details for economy which came up at £470 then changed to Biz class and re-priced, it left the cost at £470.

Last August I paid more, £1,170pp but the day I booked Virgin wanted £1,300pp for economy.

Who knows what there will be for next year?
