fly same day ( embarkation ) really ?

I wouldn't do it unless you were a drivable range, such as Jacksonville to Port Canaveral or Dallas to Galveston. If there's a problem on the flight, you'd still have time to drive to make the ship. Otherwise, it's not worth the stress. Several years ago, there was a lot less stress. We've done it once, flying out Saturday morning after our Friday night wedding. But we left at 5:30 a.m. on a direct flight with two other direct flights that day before noon (which would have still gotten us in on time). As a result, far fewer worries. Now, with so many less flights, there are only three direct flights to Orlando from our home airport on a Saturday to begin with and I'm not even sure the first one would be doable. Definitely not any of the other ones.

I wouldn't do it. My mom flew from CA last year to Tampa for a non-Disney cruise and had delays and flights re-routed before making it to Tampa. She ended up having about 3 stops. Luckily they planned well for the delays.

Doesn't sound smart to me. For our August Dream cruise, we had luggage delays that wasted about 2 hours of our time. Cant imagine what I'd do if I had a boat to catch!

Also, keep in mind that not all flight delays are weather related. I was traveling for work last week and my flight was delayed because a previous plane had mechanical issues which created a domino effect on all of the subsequent flights. Time of year and weather is not the only thing to consider.

I was on a flight (non Cruise, funeral unfortunately. not the kind of flight anyone wants) and we were held up for quite some time because of a gas spill behind the plane that had to be cleaned up prior to boarding.

Now doesn't that make someone feel confident about getting on...

Thankfully, I don't think my honey will ever suggest flying in day of. Thankfully again, he is like me and likes to come in two nights before, and have some fun for at least one or two days in Orlando, prior to cruising.

If we are cruising PC, there will always be a reason to extend the trip at least a day coming. These last two, it was WDW. Next time, it'll prob be Universal (for new Transformers and other stuff), or it could be Sea World, Wet n Wild, we've never done a WDW water park, you name it. We've never done DQuest. There is so much to do that can make your trip in the city. As far as we are from it, (12-13 hr drive), it is not a good investment on our part to not do SOME park that we love.

It worked great for me this yr! I got to spend 2 base days and 2 hopping days because of our cruises out of PC!

I don't think my honey and I would fly in day of even if we could. We just would hate to fly in Orlando and leave it behind...

For years we flew in the day of the cruise, arriving around 10am at the airport. We now fly in the day before after we almost missed the ship one year. There was a delay due to mechical issues and then they switched planes so we ended up arriving so late, we missed muster drill and it wasn't long after that the ship set sail. It was very stressful. We were sailing with family that left out of another airport and they couldn't figure out what happened to us and were surprised to see us boarding just as they were finishing muster.

I have been stuck at the airport for hours due to mechanical issues. Have also been delayed for long periods due to weather... not snow but lightning so flights weren't taking off or landing.

I just won't risk it personally.

I am one who would never fly in the same day as I was sailing. Years ago, I had a position where I booked hundreds of Disney Cruises. Like another poster, I cannot tell you the stories I heard, and how many times delays happened that either caused people to completely miss their cruise (& now imagine what they had to go through to try and find a flight to catch the ship at its first port! UGH!), or to be so stressed out, it ruined their entire first day of their cruise.

Why risk it? When we lived out of state, we'd fly in the day before, rent a car, and stay at one of the hotels in Cocoa near the port that offered free parking during your cruise. MUCH more relaxing, PLUS, we got to get to the Port early! I like to enjoy every little second I can of my cruise, & for me, getting there early is part of the fun and excitement!

we will be arriving the day prior our disney dream cruise will be staying at wdw property and when leaving the ship back at wdw Port orleans riverside for 2 nights .

We are flying into MCO on September 1st, the same day we leave on our cruise. I'll have to remember to let everyone know how it goes. Our flight is a direct flight and arrives at MCO at 11:30 am and then we are taking the DCL transfer to the port. Hopefully we have no problems!!!!
