Fly on Friday the 13th?? Yep, we`ll turn superstition into 23 nights of fun!! A Sept/Oct 2024 TR

My gosh those oysters looked amazing! I LOVE oysters! Raw, steamed, broiled, fried, Rockefeller, etc. I can eat my weight in oysters (and I have in New Orleans) and I was drooling looking at your oysters.

The trip sounds so lovely!

I hope the hurricane wasn't too bad there. My family in Sarasota/Siesta Key left and came over and stayed in Fort Lauderdale at a friend's vacation home during the storm. My family was very lucky and suffered no damage in that storm.

A fellow oyster lover!!!! I admit, I only really eat them raw and these ones were amazing. I have had them Rockefeller, but give me raw everyday and twice on a Saturday!!!! I can imagine you in New Orleans, I was similar in Scotland once or twice.

We sat at a restaurant practically on the water, and the hand dived oysters and scallops are literally brought to you when you order them, amazing place and sadly Covid closed them down and they never got back up and running again. But we`d drive almost 2 hours from where our holiday home up there used to be just to have the freshest seafood ever!!

Now I want oysters again lol...

I`m so glad to hear your family had no damage, we were in that Orlando bubble, but watching the news from some areas was heartbreaking to see those that did have substantial damage.

Fort lauderdale always looks so lovely one of those places we have on our list to visit, but it would need to be a couple of nights I think due to distance, but I will say our list of places we want to visit is getting longer and longer and many are outside of Florida so maybe a rethink of visiting Floriday in the future. One couple we are very friendly with are planning to move to Charlotte NC next year so we do think we may visit them at some point.

There`s a big world out there for sure :)

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH

The morning after the night before.

Anytime we`ve had to stay longer because of a hurricane, the next day has always been less humid and really pleasant weather wise, but today was going to be as hot and humid as it had been before the storm, not that we got that much damage happily. But, today was going to be a roaster.

Our plans changed yesterday when we saw the weather other places were getting, we had planned to go to St Augustine along the coast road, but friends and the weather man to be honest said it wasn`t a good idea due to the sea swell, so I`m all for taking advice from locals who know what they`re talking about and decided last night to have a park day today and put off visiting the ocean till another time.

I think we showered and headed over to RP quite early this morning and always forgot to take a picture of the new decor in one area of the walk.

Coming from Sapphire you go down the second set of escalators and the wall above the doors at the bottom used to house some quite dusty oriental style parasols similar to the ones that used to be in the lobby area, this sleek design looks much better and a little classier than before, they have done a good job of carrying through the new decor to all areas of the hotel.

i-hSg35Rf-X2.jpg

We got seated in the Club lounge easily today again as it was still fairly quiet, and we were chatting to one of the TM and mentioned Kyle and his new promotion coming up and generally about time off work he gets.

She marvelled at how much vacation time Kyle gets off a year and over here you don`t have to work for a lot of years to get it, it`s automatic, but this lady listening said she couldn`t imagine getting almost 7 weeks paid vacation a year plus all the Statuatory holidays too, not a bad little number. Most folks get between 4 and 6 weeks when you start working here. One couple also sitting next to us overheard and said they had worked for their place for almost 10 years and now get two weeks but they can`t take it altogether???? It does seem strange to us in the UK for folks in the USA to get so little time off unless you`ve worked somewhere for years!!!

One lady told us her daughter started a new job last year, a decent job and barely gets any vacation time either, I wished I hadn`t mentioned it by the end of the conversation as one lady seemed annoyed!!!

We changed the subject and enjoyed a quick breakfast and planned to go to IOA we weren`t sure if the pool was open yet to cut through, but folks were milling around clearing up after the rains last night, so we headed down to go that way.

i-FzTJ8sD-X2.jpg

The pool wasn`t open, but they let us through as we knew them, one of the managers who was there just helping clean up. Kaitlyn we had met at the beginning of the trip was there mucking in and so was A, it was so nice to see them both and we managed to have a good old chat eventually saying we didn`t want to keep them, I think they wanted into the cool as soon as they could!

The walk wasn`t as bad as I thought this morning, it is only a 6 - 7 minute walk to the gates of IOA from the pool, we were surprised by the little breeze that appeared and was very welcome, however it was still densely humid and felt quite oppressive, so our walk was fairly slow!! It did seem quite dull today but the heat more than made up for that.

IOA still had the AP entrance which would stop on Sept 30th, but it is a nice little perk as you do miss crowds if they are there, today wasn`t bad at all but still nice to walk straight through with no one in front of you. I wish they offered a separate entrance all year round for AP holders.

The TM always thank you for being an AP holder which is a nice little touch.

i-nDrHTtZ-X2.jpg

Port of Entry is beautiful and the whole story of it is fascinating, so every building has something to do with how Port of Entry came about and where it represents, love it and I love the vibrant colours that encompasses every building and detail.

i-FjQfX3X-X2.jpg

i-D62J366-X2.jpg

I`m told a detail many visitors miss is this mail box, it sits as you walk out at the end of the day which would be handy for popping a postcard in, you can`t really miss it and it is genuine, anything you post will be collected and mailed out.

i-ckrhTNK-X2.jpg

Three times a week staff open it and collect whatever is in there and it is mailed out if it has the proper postage on.

We don`t send postcards generally, but I do like to send one to my mum and some older relatives who like receiving them, so I have popped them in this mail box and they did arrive in quite good time to the UK, so I`ll happily mail any future postcards from here again.

i-nKbL82B-X2.jpg

I`m not going to lie, I do buy a fair amount of merch, but usually something quite specific, maybe mugs or whatever, and the Potter stuff is high on my lists this year both for me and gifts for friends. And I`ve always been quite impressed with the quality, certainly in the gifts I`ve bought in the past, cookie jars, serving trays and so on, as well as the mugs.

Today I was picking up pajamas, one pair for me and three pairs, two for friends and one for a goddaughter, Christmas presents partly sorted!!!

It was the short sleeved top and longer bottoms, I don`t like the tank top style, I like mine, hope they like theirs come Christmas!

i-G5Vj5pK-X2.jpg

We got them all sent off to the hotel with a mug I really liked too with the Always logo on it and it`s a gorgeous colour too.

The delivery to your room is a nice perk of an onsite stay and we do take advantage of it, saves rumbling around the park with any purchases, although you can have them sent and pick them up at the exit if you`re not onsite, either way works.

We head back outside and it feels like being inside a sauna already, I doubt we`ll spend a lot of time in the park today, I already feel like an overcooked turkey!!

Listening to the sounds that are emitted from the buildings is a favourite passtime of mine and I might look silly looking up and listening but it`s just a bit of fun. Some folks don`t believe there are so many places that have sounds from the buildings as though they are real people, but all part of the story of POE.

i-3JxMj6X-X2.jpg

Today we couldn`t turn left as they were doing repairs on the safety net underneath the Hulk, the winds last night has loosened part of the net. They had a mini crane and TM`s were stopping people trying to get through that way, and yes there were some folks who still expected to pass through the line of them.

So, we turned right and had a wander down to the lagoon for some pictures and some water we had bought.

This is my red as a beetroot look!!!

We had barely gone any distance at all and I was boiled already and it showed. But, it was brightening up nicely despite the clouds in the background.

i-bhvZj6L-X2.jpg

We heard someone on the way in say Velocicoaster was down, but from where we were standing it looked fine and dandy and that was the way we were headed, albeit slowly!!

i-jpqrWSq-X2.jpg

We were quite quiet today. not sombre, but almost placid and just wandered very slowly as we are never in a rush to do anything, so we stopped and took a picture of almost everything, don`t worry I won`t post all of them!!! But, it is always lovely to not be time limited.

i-HHwmLkd-X2.jpg

Dr Seuss imagined a colourful world for sure, and it shows in every corner of this little area, it is beautiful and very, very detailed and despite us only knowing the more popular of his stories due to films, we still admire everything there is to see here.

Half of the sky looked a little ominous, but we had been assured it wasn`t going to rain.

i-fPGjV3z-X2.jpg

We were also far too early for any of the characters to be out, and neither were the Who`s who are just incredible especially at Christmas, they really go all out and when you are close to them you can really see the detail in what makes up a Who.

i-jMrCWXb-X2.jpg

i-x5VS3G3-X2.jpg

This used to be a store you could just walk into a meet the Grinch without too much of a wait and in 2017/18 we walked in to him waiting for folks with nothing to do, that seems a long way off now considering how long the line gets to see him in Honks Honkers.

i-GpX7BXL-X2.jpg

The Grinch merchandise is wonderful in here, they have a massive selection of items from nightwear, shirts to trinkets and of course, christmas tree decorations.....one of my weaknesses!!! Tom vehemently concurs!

i-6vTz2p5-S.gif

I thought I was photobombing this picture....didn`t realise Tom included me!!

i-ZfN9Mpx-X2.jpg

There are some odd art pieces in here for sure, a quick Google explains them, but I do find them a little odd myself.

i-LWFqBJW-X2.jpg

i-VRTc7Xm-X2.jpg

You do have to Honk Honkers everytime 😉

i-46FWZBN-X2.jpg

We headed in towards Hogsmeade, we were hoping to ride Hagrid`s today, failing that, definitely Velocicoaster today.

More to come of today!

OMG they dove for oysters and scallops while you are waiting?!? Heaven!

Fort Lauderdale is amazing and you two should absolutely visit! Take the Brightline down, it isn't a bad ride. Under three hours I believe. It is set up more like your trains in Europe.

I would absolutely skip Charlotte. Both of my stepdaughters live there. It is just like Orlando without any of the amusement parks or tourist attractions and the weather is much worse. There are so many nicer places in North Carolina! No offense to anyone who lives there!

It really is something to experience, you just can’t get fresher, shame they closed down, it’s been replaced by a generic chain pub that serves food, nope, won’t be going there.

Brightline is decent, one of our hotel friends left to work there for a few months, I think the better seating he showed us looked really good. Fort Lauderdale does look lovely.

I think there’s a reason Charlotte is in their sights to move there, one reason is having to be close to an airport/private airfield for their plane, small plane, but that’s one of their requirements. I know nothing of the Carolina’s being honest.

So, yes, if we do visit, it’ll be to see them, not the area as such, nothing is set in stone yet, I think they have a couple of areas to consider. :)

I really need to get a move on with this, I expected it to be finished by now, apologies for it dragging on!!

We wandered down to behind Mythos which gives you lovely views of both Hulk and Velocicoaster and hearing the screams from folks on both are something we enjoy listening to, not as a sadist of course, as most screams are those of fun!!

The Hulk wasn`t running, so they must still have been working on the netting, we hoped by the time we worked our way round it was going as we both fancied a go on it today. Hulk is one I`ll ride it once and once is enough as the latter part of the ride is a bit of a head banger.

i-5P35TnB-X2.jpg

It looked very dull again, so much for the sunshine coming out, but at the risk of being boring, it was intensely hot now and for the first time this trip it did feel uncomfortable in the heat, usually as the lizard of the family I would be revelling in this, but even I would have turned the temp down a degree or two this morning.

We can sit round there for a time and just enjoy the views and surroundings, but some people appeared and the kids were just noisy (how very dare they) jk of course, I don`t mind kids, but 8 year olds screaming for the sake of screaming, no possible excuse for that so we left and headed over to look at what was Poseidon`s Adventure.

i-VbWGdnS-X2.jpg

This is a beautiful building and I`m positive once Epic is up and running this mahoosive building won`t be laying empty for much longer, we can`t wait till they announce what`s going in here!!!

Poseidon for us is very much of the You don`t know what you`ve got till it`s gone as we avoided it for years....oops....then the week it was closing, Kyle was with us for that trip and he wanted to do every ride and experience in both parks that trip, so we did do it and ......yep, we loved it!!!

I had remembered it as dreadful, it really wasn`t, instead it was funny, entertaining and we saw what everyone had been seeing all these years.

i-vndMsfR-X2.jpg

The store is still themed for Poseidon and they have some lovely little trinkets around the place including jewellery, I don`t think we`ve bought anything more than water from here though.

i-c5dGT9j-X2.jpg

i-9gr3QR7-X2.jpg

We love this little area to the back of the Talking Fountain that was once the back of the Sindbad Show once upon a time. We do miss that show as it was very good, we didn`t see it often but did enjoy it.

This area not many people even know is here so it is always very quiet, there is a dog area back here too, but you`d never know it. There is also a smoking area, although I`m not sure it is still a smoking area with the changes to them in the park, I never checked but we didn`t see or smell anyone smoking here today which was nice.

i-qtPJHfw-X2.jpg

We love this almost secluded area, incredibly detailed as with everything in the Universal parks and quiet, if you fancy some time away from crowds, this is one place to come.

I did have my hat on now as I took it off in the bathroom and almost shrieked at the sight of my hair, didn`t realise I had so much hair at this point......

i-HjGXT9R-S.gif

My hat is staying on for all pics now!!

i-mVgC86j-X2.jpg

i-b9bmzzP-X2.jpg

I love this water feature and again fits with the theme of the area which I hope they don`t change when they revamp the area as it could fit into several styles.

i-5cSmRjt-X2.jpg

And of course you have the Sindbad Theatre itself which is still completely frozen in time and any work has been in abeyance since the closure of the show named The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad in September 2018.

It is a little weird seeing it almost as it was back then, there doesn`t seem to have been much removed since the closure. Again, they have a vast space to use here for future development, which will happen for sure.

i-PxTmgKZ-X2.jpg

i-t492KM2-X2.jpg

Incredible details are everywhere and The Talking Fountain deserves his own spot, this is a fabulous way to pass 10 minutes or so talking to him and he does interact really well with kids and adults alike.

Sometime the humour goes above kids heads and it`s very clever humour, but we have spent ages sitting behind the fountain just listening to his conversations with folks. Kids are funnier and this day we heard the Fountain ask where the boy was from, the young lad who was around 6 or 7 replied he wasn`t going to tell him as he was a stranger, but with such indignance, it was very funny. The Fountain brought the parents into the chat too which was entertaining to say the least.

But, if you`ve never listened to him, it is worth it and kids just love when he soaks them too.

i-D4FpqT9-X2.jpg

i-RGKXsT6-X2.jpg

All Hallows Eve Boutique is the tiniest place, but hold a lot of stuff for whatever theme they are representing depending on the time of year and of course as HHN was on now, the theme was horror.

This place used to host a Magic Show which was awful!! Really awful, we were unfortunate to experience it once years ago, maybe back in 07 or 08 and then it lay empty or certainly not used in a guest facing role until a few years back they started using it as a themed boutique and it works really well.

Again, I think this year it wasn`t as good as it usually was, not as detailed nor did it have the same elaborate decor it used to have.

i-zbdMbzf-X2.jpg

i-F7CBDxh-X2.jpg

i-dS3WCMS-X2.jpg

i-D4j7wgs-X2.jpg

They do have a load of merchandise in here too, not just clothing items but they have hot and BBQ sauce, not sure where the horror theme was with them but hey ho, it is quite nice sauce, they do a lovely range of themed candles which I was impressed with, we did buy a few when it was Christmas themed.

We picked up a few slightly different items to go in with Christmas presents. One thing we thought was a wine goblet, small and pretty, but it seems to be a candle holder, I hope the person that will receive it likes it, it is very her!!

More coming right up!!

Before heading into Hogsmeade, we backtracked a little and went to ride Velocicoaster, it did look very busy down here but we weren`t too bothered with knowing the EP line is usually very quick, I forget what the regular line was but for us, it took us less than 10 minutes to get on which is fabulous, we hate lines.

The line moved constantly and we never even got held up at the lockers nor metal detectors today so it felt even faster and when we got to the front we asked for the back row and got it, these are definitely our favourite seats, or maybe it`s the front, I`m not sure. I think we prefer the front at night when you can see all the lights around the parks.

This is an amazing ride and I don`t know anyone that doesn`t love it, well if they like coasters of course. It covers everything you want in a coaster and it has a decent length, so you don`t feel short changed. I think our favourite part, apart from the barrel roll at the end is when you hear the power ramp up before you go over the top hat, that really does excite you of the impending thrill of that quick climb and even faster drop, it is amazing.

We only did it once today, I`m always aware of not annoying my head for too long and don`t like to get that nauseated feeling, so once was enough today. I think Tom would have gone again, but it`s not the same on your own according to him when he knows I`m not riding.

So, headed back to Hogsmeade where I can see the humidity affected the camera slightly today with a misty look in some of them.

i-GPHRtcW-X2.jpg

We managed to catch the owl coming out of the top of the owlery, sometimes we catch it sometimes we miss it,some folks don`t know it does that either, it is easy to miss I guess.

i-f6h7Ct6-X2.jpg

We looked to ride Hagrid`s again, but it was on a delay, of course you never know how long it`s going to be down for, we didn`t wait and headed to the Hog`s Head and bought a Pumpkin Fizz to share, neither of us like Butterbeer but this is nice, very sweet so sharing it works for us and then headed round the back of the Three B`s to enjoy some shade from the perpetual heat and enjoy listening to the screams from the Velocicoaster, they are so close to here so it`s a perfect place to watch and listen to folks reactions on the ride.

It`s also quite quiet round here today, I think we sat here for around 15 minutes or so, then quite a lot of folks appeared with food, so we didn`t want to take up a table with only having a drink.

i-SgBxsvp-X2.jpg

Neither of us felt like riding FJ today so we just wandered kind of aimlessly and took about a thousand pictures, we mistimed it to see the Frog Choir and the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students performing, all worth seeing of course and I think times and such are all on the App.

I`m old fashioned and still miss the paper info that used to be available at the entrances to the parks.

Someone standing beside us was talking to his family as we wandered on to the bridge in front of the castle, they were talking of a couple that got engaged a few minutes ago, always lovely to see something like that. Last year we saw a wedding here, we think it was an informal one rather than an official one, but they looked very happy regardless.

There were a lot of folks on here today as is normal, everyone wants that shot in front of Hogwarts!!

i-Ts7Wshk-X2.jpg

Trying to get a picture of the entrance to Jurassic Park area nowadays with no one else in it is nigh on impossible most of the time, but we managed it today, admittedly a few moments later the flood gates opened and a slew of guest appeared from both behind and in front of us, so we got lucky.

Once upon a time that whole area through the arch to the right hosted the lockers for what was Duelling Dragons a long time ago, well not that long I suppose, we do miss that ride however good Hagrid`s is, not much will beat DD.

i-43xLvng-X2.jpg

i-9qprfmf-X2.jpg

Kong, we bypassed today, it`s not a favourite, we tend to do it once a trip, it`s not the same since they omitted the outside part with the ride vehicle, mainly down to issues with the huge doors that open and close for the vehicle to enter the cavernous area, it is missed by many.

Wimpy`s is one of the best quick service options in IOA, it is a real little gem and is very underrated as the burgers are really rather lovely, fries are good too and although we tend not to eat outside generally, we do make an exception for this place.

But, not today.

i-WfRvkNL-X2.jpg

i-WVBZJJg-X2.jpg

Another area that is highly coloured and vibrant and of course you get completely drenched on those barges, no escaping it. We`re not the biggest water ride fans, but usually once a trip we head into the park in the afternoon and binge on the water rides especially this one.

Ripsaw Falls is fun, but the log you sit in is rather awkward to get in and out of, that aside it is a good ride too.

Me Ship the Olive is very well themed and although some kids don`t know who Popeye is anymore, they still seem to enjoy it. You can also soak the already drenched riders in the barge below you from the top deck.

i-8fQRsMR-X2.jpg

You also get a really good view from the bridge through to the statue of J Jonah Jameson that resides to the rear of the Spider-Man ride. It apparently mysteriously went missing years ago then appeared without any explanation as to where it was or why it was gone, I like a good tale like that!

i-n3nHR6z-X2.jpg

i-XZPfWjs-X2.jpg

This yappy dog has to be the most annoying dog ever, it was silent one day we were here and it was so much nicer than listening to the incessant yipping around you when you`re getting a picture. It is a nice little display though and the sprinkling of water you get if you stand close enough is rather nice.

i-JXVMm7m-X2.jpg

i-msTgDjL-X2.jpg

i-WmsXCkg-X2.jpg

Tom has always wanted to go back to Croissant Moon bakery for lunch, we did check last week but it was full, today however it wasn`t busy so we`d give it a try.

It is a lovely exterior, the interior is a little duller than it should be, Confisco Grill is as vibrant inside as it is outside, and it`s not a large place at all with a few seats inside, however it does have exterior seating, but directly in the blazing sunshine for a lot of the day.

1734777062451.jpeg

i-HQMnWpZ-X2.jpg

We weren`t overly hungry so we were going to share but couldn`t decide what to get, I quite liked the look of the lemon-blueberry brioche, but Tom wasn`t keen so a sandwich it was going to be.

i-QDP2jhj-X2.jpg

We decided on the Ultimate Sandwich which had turkey, ham, roast beef, Swiss cheese on a croissant and adorned with arugula, picked onions and spicy mustard, it came with potato and fruit salad.

However, what we got was the Italian Sandwich, not sure how the mix up happened, I had gone to the bathroom and it was there when I came back and Tom had pictured it and started eating his half.

They had given us the Italian Sandwich which came with salami, spicy capicola, ham, provolone, arugula, pickled onions, sun-dried tomato pesto and basil aioli served on a crusty baguette, only problem with this one was, I don`t eat crusty baguettes but as he had started eating it, we didn`t want to swap it. So I ate it carefully, but it was very crusty, too crusty for me.

Tom enjoyed it, but said he wouldn`t rush back, the crusty bread was just too crusty for him too, but the potato salad is very nice as was the sandwich filling.

i-X5sdF4f-X2.jpg

We never did make it on the Hulk today, it was one of those days we just didn`t feel like it, so we passed on it too, we were just feeling like heading out of the park now so a quick visit in to the Christmas Store which has changed so much since our last visit, and not as good as it once was, so much of the cute merchandise has gone, it`s still a nice store, but different.

i-MVdFTZ2-X2.jpg

All the detail up the side alleys are incredible and I do love this wanted poster and quite like the sound of a guy who indulges in wanton mopery and gross pillockery!!!!

Calling someone a Pillock is a very Scottish/British way of insulting anyone and a word I use often apparently......some folks just fit that description at times 😉

i-FDJPCV7-X2.jpg

i-KKzv6gK-X2.jpg

Short walk to the boats and we waited a few moments for one today and it was nice to get back home where we knew it was cool!! Yes, for someone who loves heat, I complained an awful lot about it being too hot today. It won`t happen again 😁

I love coming home to Sapphire Falls on the boats, day or night it looks so pretty, especially at night when it`s all lit up.

i-HVLpbcs-X2.jpg

i-B8zNBvg-X2.jpg

i-RMdv25x-X2.jpg

Back in our suite I picked up my ipad and the first thing I saw was Maggie Smith had sadly passed away. Known by many of course as Professor McGonagall.

i-GRbhXbr-S.jpg

There was going to be a wand raising tribute for her tonight at 7pm at Hogwarts, we did think we might wander in for it.

Right now, we both wanted a snooze!!!

We both slept for about an hour and a half today and yes, I had that complete feeling of disorientation when I woke up as where the heck was I and what day was it!!! I think I was out for the count, although we sleep really well at night I think that heat had zapped us today, so a quick snooze did us the world of good.

Once we had freshened up, we walked over to the Club lounge, I knew Daniel was working tonight and he was on with the lovely Sydney who is a lot of fun too and on the way over I finally remembered who the couple were from a few days ago.

We had met them last May on the trip Kyle was with us, I had no clue what their name was but I was glad I had remembered which trip we had met them on.

The lounge was deserted when we went in, even though they were setting up for service, we managed to have a good catch up which is always nice, we would be saying goodbye to him on Sunday and would definitely miss him a lot.

i-PTR6xT5-X2.jpg

They have a lovely selection of alcohol on offer for most people, I usually have the Pinot Noir or some fizzy, the whites they have are not for me. Tom varies between the wine, beers and the nice pineapple cider they have, he is very easy to please.

i-MzLpmnc-X2.jpg

i-xXhT4XD-X2.jpg

We do like their Caesar salad when it`s on, and we do sometimes have a little salad with our wine, however for us the weakest option on the menu are the chicken tenders with mac n cheese which was tonight`s offering. None of it is to our taste, but kids love it so it tends to be a popular night with families with younger kids for that reason, but something we don`t even taste anymore.

i-QGbj5wW-X2.jpg

i-Lg5xLMK-X2.jpg

We had planned to leave the lounge around 6.15 tonight, but one of our lovely friends from the hotel came up and we chatted away for so long we didn`t realise it was so late, but we would rather spend time with them than head into the parks of course.

It was funny I made one comment as a joke in German and a woman sitting close by heard me and asked if I was German. I said no, but my Great Grandparents were from Germany and I did speak a little, but my little brag for the day was I can sing Silent Night, Away in a Manger and several other Christmas Carols in German (I know, not much of a brag) and no I wasn`t going to sing it in a now busy Club Lounge lol.....I also can`t carry a tune in a bucket either and hadn`t had nearly enough wine!!!

Doesn`t stop me at other times though :rolleyes1

I never did find out why she asked as she wasn`t German and she never really explained why she asked, nice lady though.

We missed everyone raising their wands for maggie Smith, but this picture was on the internet, no idea who to credit as someone sent it to me and I don`t think it`s their picture, nice one though and a lovely gesture for an amazing actress.

i-89LtQSD-X2.jpg

Our plan tonight was a wander round Citywalk and to get some food, we still hadn`t decided where or what we wanted yet, but something would jump out at us when we were hungry.

Even though we were at RPR we decided to get the boat rather than walk as it was still blazing hot and the boat is always a lovely way to get where you want to go.

i-jfsBQW2-X2.jpg

Citywalk was very quiet for a Friday night, whenever HHN is on, the whole area was always busy all the time from late afternoon and all through the evening, not sure why it was so quiet again.

It is nice though to be able to wander without crowds.

Our first stop ended up being Cowfish, we went to the bar and got a seat there, ordered cocktails after perusing the menu.

i-hhTG9PT-X2.jpg

I went for the Pineapple Queen which included Malibu, coconut rum, pineapple, lemonade, sanpellegrino and aranciata and it was lovely although I hated the glasses they were served in tonight.

Tom opted for the Pucker up Buttercup which was a nice sounding mix of Milagro silver tequila, dekuyper watermelon pucker, a lot of fresh lime and a smidging of tajín, both were very nice but not the best cocktail we ever had.

i-RqCZ9X2-X2.jpg

Food wise, we just wanted to snack in here, we quite like their burgers and some of their appetisers, but we never touch their sushi as I think it`s bland and tasteless despite looking quite pretty, so that`s always a pass from us.

We do like their Rangoon dip and spicy shrimp, but one of my favourite dishes anywhere is blackened tuna or tuna tartare, so when I saw they had a Tuna Nachos dish, I wanted to try it, so we ordered it and it arrived looking very appetising indeed.

Like their sushi, it was bland and not very tasty, but the ultimate sin.....it was also overcooked in parts. It has to be very rare or you might as well not bother, then end slices were ok, but the middle ones were not as nice and we left most of it.

We had a barman who noticed we hadn`t touched it and asked us how it was knowing our answer, again I started with an apology saying I was sorry but it was overcooked and warm in part and not very tasty, he smiled as if he wasn`t surprised, we didn`t ask him to take it off the check, but he did, so he got an extra tip tonight.

i-KS7fgTB-X2.jpg

We paid the check and headed back down to Citywalk and straight to Vivo.

Vivo is somewhere we always enjoy and have never been disappointed with the food or service and now I was starving, so I wanted something substantial and filling, so Vivo it was and again we bypassed the quite large line outside and sat at the bar where there were a few seats available and we sat beside a very nice couple who were chatting away like old buddies as soon as we sat down.

I know that doesn`t suit everyone but we are chatty folks and always enjoy a good chin wag with folks anywhere, so we were quite happy.

We ordered a bottle of prosecco and had a check of the menu as we ate the lovely bread and olive oil they give you, it is very nice and still warm.

i-mzHdhvW-X2.jpg

i-PkFtR8W-X2.jpg

We chatted so much it was a while before we ordered, but eventually chose the meat pizza which had pepperoni and sausage on it, Tom had it once before and it is a very good pizza and for us it was now better than Sal`s at PBH which we used to consider the best onsite pizza but not anymore.

This was a very good pizza and large enough for two very hungry people to share!! My tummy was now gurgling a lot looking for food!!!

The couple we chatted to left as our pizza arrived and were immediately replaced by another, the bar does get very busy indeed.

i-LKD35RV-X2.jpg

i-hhwCk5p-X2.jpg

Our food was lovely, we had really enjoyed the pizza and prosecco and were quite full now, I had thought if we were still hungry we`d get a Voodoo Donut, but I doubted we`d need one now.

We had just left our seats when someone else sat down, busy night for the barmen, we were disappointed our favourite barmen weren`t on tonight, but we left a message for them and hoped we`d catch them next time.

We normally go to Fat Tuesday`s for a cocktail to enjoy in Citywalk, but we spotted the other place called Shoreline, it has a different set of cocktails, so thought we`d try one of those for a change and they were lovely.

i-8WTKDJR-X2.jpg

I had the Mai Tai and goodness me, it would blow your head off, so only one of these tonight and I was done with alcohol!!! Tom opted for the Mango Passion Crush and again, they were very heavy on the pour!!!

1734966329574.jpeg

Some people anyway!!

We found a little bench and sat down with them and people watched for a time, I didn`t want to rush this drink or it would go straight to my head for sure and the heat tonight was wonderful, so it was a real pleasure sitting enjoying the cocktails.

But, it was so quiet.

i-4tj9wkV-X2.jpg

You would never know one of the biggest events in the country was going on in the park to our right at this moment apart from the lights projecting on the entrance in the darkness.

Although we hadn`t missed going to the event, it still saddens us to hear so many people conveying their disappointment in the overall experience, TM`s who work there included, some of their tales will make your hair curl!

I doubt we`ll ever go back to HHN again.

i-MvKRq4T-X2.jpg

It was around eleven when we headed for the boat, again, it was so different as usually this time of night the lines for the boats are incredible, but this time we only waited till the next boat appeared which was only 5 minutes or so, by now I was ready for bed.

i-LNcNdkL-X2.jpg

I don`t think we even put the tv on tonight, it was straight to bed and I don`t think we moved a muscle all night.

I don`t think we even put the tv on tonight, it was straight to bed and I don`t think we moved a muscle all night.

Stille Nacht, Hilea Gay (pardon the spelling, lol) Nacht...................I had to learn the German song of Silent Night! Happily, for the family, I don't remember all of it, LOL.

And it's so nice to find out that after looking in Every shop at Universal, there was a Christmas Shop at the entrance to IOA!!!!! I bet I walked right by it several times. At least you weren't impressed with it, so I didn't miss much. I think we will go later next year because I missed the Christmas decorations this year.

Yes, I think mine are happy I don`t sing.....often

Not too bad Ruth......Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht lol.....guess what I`ve been singing tonight, Tom is thrilled 🥴

It`s still not too bad a place, just not as good as it was, well worth a visit though :santa:

Quick pop in to say I hope you all have a wonderful festive season.

Won`t be around for a few days, spending time with family and friends over the next four days, so much for finishing this TR by Christmas......best laid plans!!!

But, hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2025 and thank you for all the lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 28TH

Another fabulous sleep for us and I had another lovely sunset to watch this morning while sleeping beauty stayed in his slumber a little longer, I do enjoy that quiet time before the day begins.

I did wake Tom earlier than usual as we were heading offsite to Winter Garden today as it was their weekly Farmers Market which we had been to before and really enjoyed it, they had some lovely produce and some different stalls that the other markets don`t have. They also had a place we were going to try for the first time for lunch.

Breakfast was nice as usual, I opted for a glazed doughnut and some fruit while Tom had his usual croissants with meat and cheese, the one thing I wouldn`t miss are the teabags, they may be decent, but not for me, however I do drink them as there are no other options.

We chatted a little then head back across to Sapphire to get the car and I win the race for the car keys, so it`s my turn to drive again, we both enjoy driving on the wrong side of the road to us although I am usually very magnanimous and "let" Tom drive at night if we go offsite wthout using an Uber.....yep, that way I get a cocktail ::yes::

It takes about 20 minutes or so to get there and parking is easy here, there are the main street spots, some smaller parking lots around, lots at the Crooked Can and they also have a multi level lot now, I have no idea if that`s always been there but we didn`t know about it, however we did get a spot on Main Street today.

I`m not complaining :rolleyes1but it was blazing hot today, far too hot to do much roaming around the way we usually do, so we planned to wander the market for a time then head for lunch and then back home so that`s exactly what we did and it was lovely.

They have a lovely area for local produce and it is always busy however, this kinda stuck out today for obvious reasons and a time where the words.."That`s a big un"....seems very appropriate!!!!

i-XgKdWw6-X2.jpg

We headed down to the stalls and there were less than last time, but still a lot to wander through and plenty for most folks. We are always drawn to the spice and hot sauce stalls and today this was one of the first we came across, oh we had to resist buying more spices and sauces we really couldn`t carry home now!!!

i-HhpWZhf-X2.jpg

1735657898458.gif

No surprise then!!!

This Hot Sauce Man has some fabulous products, the rubs I`m not so fond of as I found them to be very salty, but his sauces are full of flavour and banging hot!!!

i-s2WRpmr-X2.jpg

We wandered some more, stopped in to one little place for a drink and I enjoyed a lemonade made with ginger and Tom had a blackberry one, they were very nice but we didn`t get pictures of them but sitting for 15 minutes in the cool was very nice.

We headed round into the main street area, there are some lovely shops and restaurants here too and it is very, very pretty and another little town that you can spend a long time wandering around.

i-cSH77HJ-X2.jpg

The Chef`s Table at The EdgeWater was a restaurant we enjoyed visiting a few years ago, it was beautiful and we keep saying we`ll go back. There only three tables in this little area with a special menu and drinks to match and we really enjoyed it, but whenever we`ve checked it, there have been some items we wouldn`t enjoy and too many to change so we haven`t gone back yet. We would however highly recommend it to anyone.

They also do a regular menu which looks nice too.

i-4TfChbh-X2.jpg

The swinging seats round the little water feature are very popular especially as they are somewhat in the shade and we were lucky to manage to get one as a couple got up from one as we walked past, so we practically jumped on it and sat for maybe another half hour just rocking back and forward and enjoyed people watching for a time.

i-BJh3pJW-X2.jpg

We had a kind of early lunch planned so we walked the few minutes round to The Crooked Can, a local brewery that has food options inside and we had been told we really had to try some of them, so who were we to argue!!

i-snJhhwf-X2.jpg

You can visit their Tap Room which is to the left of the building and it is incredibly popular, not being a beer drinker I wasn`t overkeen to try it, but I think Tom might have enjoyed it, but not this visit.

i-8fWTf6F-X2.jpg

It is very nice inside and cool....they do have a good selection of food options including ceviche which we were tempted by, however as soon as we saw this menu, we knew what we would be eating today.

i-kmJD2gv-X2.jpg

i-xw74xBs-X2.jpg

My very sweet toothed husband was tempted by some of these treats, they looked beautiful and it was nice that they weren`t predominantly chocolate based, most were fruity which is my preference in desserts, but they had a good mix of everything and we did get a little sample of a mango mousse and goodness me it was gorgeous!!

When we go back I am going to try the Cherry dessert they had, I just wanted to make room for my meat feast lunch.

i-sT6vHDV-X2.jpg

i-KFVjP8D-X2.jpg

We sat down and Tom went up to order, the tables are designed for eating to be a social occasion and everyone did chat away that sat down today, we had folks from Baltimore and one couple from Philadelphia who I did have to listen keenly to pick up some strange linguistics from them which they duly explained!!

I do enjoy hearing different affectations in folks languages and have heard some interesting ones over the years. Tom freely admitted later, he didn`t understand some of what they were saying. But, nice people and it made for a pleasant luncheon.

Tom came back with the food, we had ordered the meat feast which came with 4 ribs, half pound of both brisket and pork pieces, we opted for fries and potato salad as sides and it came with four sauces, one of which was marked with an X as it was supposed to be ultra spicy!!!

We looked forward to that sauce! He also bought us a bottle of pepsi each, our preference in the cola wars, we find we can get pepsi in most places and rarely have to drink coke. Weirdly, I do enjoy full fat coke, not diet coke but can drink it if I have to. We don`t drink a lot of soda`s back home generally, but one now and again is quite nice.

i-tQBhcmW-X2.jpg

i-k4bKRST-X2.jpg

i-t48sQtR-X2.jpg

Most of you will already have guessed, yep, the hot sauce was not very hot at all, always a disappointment when they promise us it`ll be hot, however they were all nice enough and she had said if we needed more, to just ask.

The meats were very good, ribs maybe lacked a little meat on two of them, the potato salad was nice and overall we really enjoyed lunch and would happily go back again.

Was it as good as 4Rivers? Probably not, but not the worst barbecue food we`ve ever had.

We headed back to the car and drove back home, it was only around 12.30 by now and our plan this afternoon was to change into park clothes and do the water rides today, it was hot enough and I think the perfect day to do that.

We did just that, swimming costume under the clothes and no camera for obvious reasons, plus not having to worry about bags and camera`s or phones is nice. We got the boat quickly and started at Bluto`s which we did twice, neither of us got the drenching we do so enjoy watching from the bridge, but of course we are still soaked which was very enjoyable today.

Ripsaw Falls is mixed bag for us, I hate clambering in and out of it, I have weak wrists so I do struggle a little getting in more than getting out for some reason, it`s funny to watch apparently lol....I believe them!!! No one can do getting in and out in a glamorous and refined way, but it is worth it as the drop is a whopper!!! It`s fast and yes, you get drenched again.

Jurassic Park was next up, we do this ride five times and the EP was worth it`s weight in gold today, no way would we have stood in the regular lines.

This ride varies so much each time, you can come off completely dry, have a little sprinkle of water, top half wet, all wet, soaked or completely drenched.....and anything in between, you can never call it as it all depends on how the boat is loaded and how heavy it is.

We experienced most of that today although it didn`t matter the time we would have came off dry as we were already drenched anyway, but it is such a fun ride.

After a couple of hours we sloshed back to the boats and got back home where the shower was our first port of call.

Not a busy day, but we had enjoyed a tranquil one and tonight was going to be another quietish one too.

More to follow.

Enjoy your holiday with family and friends!

Thanks mac....we had a wonderful visit full of emotion, but we honoured my lovely brother in law nicely I think.

And it`s Hogmany again, ready to start another year, 2025 has really crept up on us as this year has just been a whirlwind of both wonderful things and a sad loss for us towards the end of the year.

Tonight we have our son and some friends popping over for "The Bells" then they head off and we go to bed....yep, long gone are the days we went out partying!! Although Kyle is running 15K in the morning so I guess he won`t be out too late!

Tomorrow we have Kyle coming for dinner and we always have some folks pop in, even if it`s just for a quick drink, we decided this year we`re not going out, but will be happy to see whoever drops in.

I hope some of you have some nice plans for tonight or tomorrow!!

So, I wish everyone a Very Happy New year or as we say in Scotland....🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

i-PBT55QB-S.gif

And I do promise to try and get this TR finished soon 😊

The water rides were fun and we do enjoy them, but once or maybe twice a trip is enough for us with them, but glad we did it today as we`d probably have just napped if we hadn`t and it was too nice a day to hide out in the room.

We aren`t water park fans at all, no inclination to go to any of them, even VB which does get some amazing reviews from those that have gone, but not for us, I know we`d be bored rigid doing that.

I grabbed a load of clothes including the clothes we were wearing and headed down to the laundry room The laundry rooms at Sapphire are excellent, large and airy and I`ve never struggled to get a washer or dryer each time I`ve come down here.

While it was running, I was in the shower and Tom went back down to empty them out of the dryer and brought them back up. I thought I would wear the same dress tonight as Tom hadn`t seen it before and liked it, so back on again tonight was ok by me.

We walked over to the lounge soon after, Tom said he was driving tonight so he was on the lemonade.....I wasn`t, so had a couple of sparkly`s and didn`t touch the food either tonight. It was Marinara Meatballs and pasta, it did look very nice but we wanted to enjoy our meal later, I think we did have some salad though which was rather nice.

i-R37584M-X2.jpg

i-CXQCbpN-X2.jpg

i-FVfD7Xt-X2.jpg

It was rather lovely sitting with a glass and enjoying that late afternoon sushine coming in and the lounge tonight got very busy for a time, then it just quietened down and we got to chat to Daniel some more and the lovely Sydney who is relatively new to the lounge but is a very good addition to the concierge family.

i-MtrttCz-X2.jpg

And Daniel`s last night behind the desk up here, we would say goodbye to him tomorrow downstairs in the lobby, but one last picture up here.

i-2scrGSm-X2.jpg

Daniel worked with that lovely group in 2022 and worked with Lindsey, he had asked if he could see the pictures I had of her as he had never seen the ones Tom took of her getting the "Spiderman is my boyfriend" tee shirt we got her that she loved so much, so we shared some time looking at them and all the other ones we had of her and us together. He adored Lindsey too.

We said goodnight and headed back over to Sapphire for the car and again I do find this area very pretty when it`s not filled with conference people and it is vast, tonight we bumped into A and chatted for a time, she was one of the people who recommended the Crooked Can in Winter Garden, so she was happy to hear we had enjoyed it, we chatted for a time then headed for the parking garage.

i-5vcdVBf-X2.jpg

PF Chang`s was our choice for dinner tonight, it`s at the entrance to the Mall at Millenia and we have always really enjoyed it so we were looking forward to trying it again.

i-H4XTrVD-X2.jpg

It is always really busy, and again tonight we were glad we had booked as it was full and they were turning away walk ins, I will say the ladies on the desk could have been a little friendlier and a little more attentive, they were a little rude to the couple in front of us as they asked if their table was ready as they had been waiting 20 minutes.

We had no wait and were taken to ours straight away and it was a nice little booth over the far side of the restaurant where it didn`t seem as noisy as the centre of the place can be.

The young lady looking after us was lovely, very friendly and very helpful when I was asking about an intolerance to MSG, it is nice when they know the answers to your questions, but said she would have the chef pop out to reassure me, I said there was no need, she had answered what I needed to know.

Tom ordered a Fanta and I of course stuck to sparkly and I will say, I was starving right about now!! It had been a long time since lunch!!!

i-m8PtcMb-X2.jpg

We opted to share their chicken lettuce wraps which were very nice but you`d never know it was chicken, I thought it was pork, but they were tasty and for someone who was very hungry (me) they went down well.

i-cWgcDQv-X2.jpg

The entrees arrived fairly quickly and I was about to tuck in when Tom stopped me.....I can`t even complain as he does such a good job taking pictures for me and reminded me I was about to tuck in before a picture......tut tut!!!

i-t3N3stn-S.jpg

I had ordered the spicy chicken which was not in the least bit spicy and my side was lo mein which I will say was very dry which I was surprised with, and they don`t give you a lot of sauce with dishes, so I could have done with a bit more sauce overall.

i-P7g3TL8-X2.jpg

i-vKV5c2n-X2.jpg

Tom went for the Firecracker Shrimp which again, wasn`t spicy but it was very nice.

i-JdfRJSJ-X2.jpg

We enjoyed the meal, it wasn`t the best meal we`ve ever had, but they were well cooked and very fresh, I did mention to our waitress that the noodles were dry, she could see I hadn`t touched many of them and very kindly took 50% off the check which was nice of her, we didn`t expect any discount at all.

We will go back again, but I think we will ask for the dishes to be extra, extra spicy next time.

The Mall does look very nice when it`s lit up, such a lovely place to visit day or night.

i-LCBxmfk-X2.jpg

Once we parked the car we walked over to Aventura to have another bash at Bar17, not somewhere we really enjoy but we do like the view now and again.

There`s something about this place that just doesn`t work for many folks and we can`t quite put our finger on it but it just doesn`t have the same welcoming feeling that places like Strong Water has. The cocktail list isn`t very inspiring and we didn`t rate the food, so it`s not somewhere we venture up to often.

They have at least put some seating in the space that once lay empty and looked quite derelict, but the comfy seats and tables did look very nice and filled a huge expanse that was needed.

Tom had an Old Fashioned, not much you can do to that drink and it was decent, I opted for the Sunset Paradise which was ok but certainly lacked any alcohol taste which was surprising given the ingredients. But the overall feeling is just not very good with this place, bar staff seem to do the minimum and have little interaction with customers, not just us but many folks have said the same thing.

The views aren`t bad, but the glare from the safety glass makes pictures not the best quality.

We won`t be back for drinks again, maybe again for the views occasionally, but they do need to work on the issues this bar has, but not sure what they can do.

We went back down and walked the two minutes back to Sapphire, Aventura is not a hotel I want to spend any time in being honest, it has such a cold feeling generally.

Back in our room, we poured a glass of wine and watched some tv and had a brief chat about what we might do tomorrow, but for now, it was time for bed. It had been a quiet day overall, but we had enjoyed it.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 29TH

We were up, showered and dressed early this morning and it looked another gorgeous day ahead for us. Rather unusually Tom was the hungry one this morning so we walked swiftly over to RP this morning both ready for some food and of course tea for me and coffee for him.

Lounge was quiet and we did enjoy some fruit, croissants, toast and some of the lovely turkey laid out, we were in no rush to go anywhere today which was handy as one of the girls said Nicky the new Concierge manager was coming up to see us if we had time for a chat, of course we did and we had just finished eating when she came in.

We had spoken in the passing since we arrived and she was very nice, but she wanted to have a proper chat with us as she had heard so much about us from everyone, that always makes me nervous as I wonder what was said, but so far it seems to be all good and she assured us it was all good!!!

Nicky sat down and we chatted for about an hour or so and it was lovely getting to know her although I wonder if she`s going to move on before we come back, they move around a lot in this business, and Loews are excellent with promotion prospects so it`s understandable they do move positions so much of course.

It was so nice to chat to her and get to know her a little more especially as she knew us so well lol...

We eventually headed back over to Sapphire, our room was again cleaned and it was sparkling as always so we got our sunscreen on and headed to the car where we were driving to Flagler Beach today.

Not being beachy people we tend to just drive to places like that, walk on the beach, get some pictures and then lunch and that`s fine for us as we have no interest of sitting on a beach for any length of time, I wish I was that type of person at times as it always looks so relaxing when I see others do it.

We are the worlds worst at navigating, even with a Satnav and we did indeed get lost today. We didn`t take the Coast Road as we had been told some of it may still be flooded so we took the regular road we would normally drive on if we head to NSB or St Augustine.

We came to a junction and the GPS told us to go left, I told Tom I thought we should be going right here for some reason but well, you follow the GPS don`t you!!!! We reasoned it knew where we were going and maybe there were roadworks somewhere that was why it was driving us into suburbia!!! I did voice some concern a couple of times, but sometimes drivers don`t always listen :rolleyes1

It took us a little time to realise we were driving away from the beach area, although my thoughts that we were going the wrong way were somewhat not answered!!!! We drive through some tree lined small roads and when we pulled into a lovely little street with houses and it announced we had reached our destination, I quietly announced I thought we were in the wrong place, which in retrospect, it was quite unnecessary to utter the words out loud.....🥴

I kept my opinions to myself at this point!!!
:rotfl:

But we did reprogramme the Satnav, turned the car around and it still took us a very weird way, almost like we came in back to front but we eventually recognised where we should be and we did feel some relief as we have form for getting lost in dodgy areas, albeit at night, with not a clue where we were and yep, we admit to being guided out of a very questionable area by the Tampa Police way back in 2007!!

Roadworks were the reason!!!

I have no clue where this picture was taken along the road but it does show what a beautiful day it was and I believe we were concerned as there didn`t seem to be anyone around at that point, I was getting flashbacks to The Walking Dead.

No, I`m not always overly dramatic.

(Maybe a little)

As we had done a little bit of a detour, ahem....by now I was starving, so instead of wandering on the beach first, we headed straight for lunch and a good friend had suggested The Golden Lion which wasn`t far from what had been the pier we had enjoyed some time on last visit. So, although they had no indoor seating that is normally our preference, we decided we`d give it a bash.

There are so many places to park and although they were reasonably busy, we found some spaces just up to the side of the restaurant which was ideal.

i-b4m25HB-X2.jpg

We were shown to a nice little table downstairs as she said it was a little cooler down here, and we were quite close to the little stage where they had a really good pair of singers on and they weren`t too loud which was nice to listen to without having to yell at each other, maybe I am getting old!!!

I ordered a Spicy Mango Margarita, probably the cheapest margarita ever at $7 and it was bliddy nice!!! Tom had lemonade as he was driving and then we had a look at the menu for food.

I am not squiffy in this picture, it was the sun...honest, I hadn`t touched a drop at this point!

i-M2PzZ7q-X2.jpg

I popped to the bathrooms and spotted the raw bar immediately, I was so tempted with the oysters as they looked so good, but being so far from home I do worry about getting a dodgy one!! I am aware however a dodgy piece of shrimp or chicken is just as likely, but there`s just something that makes me think twice.

i-LVZ7Rp4-X2.jpg

He does love lemonade!!

i-LpGdKtm-X2.jpg

True to form, I did order 1lb of steamed shrimp with lots of spice on them and they looked so good!!! I did promise Tom he could have a few....only if he wanted 😉 jk, we do usually share everything like most couples.

i-Jnrg5vN-X2.jpg

I don`t think we captured his Mahi sandwich very well, but there is another large piece of fish underneath the one you can see, it was huge!!!

i-s9kC5s6-X2.jpg

Both dishes were lovely, shrimp were all perfect and the Mahi was delectable and Tom declared it his best sandwich yet which is quite something from him. I was surprised to see him eat all of it including the bread, but he really did enjoy it.

We paid the check and wandered over to the sea and although it was hot, there was a rather nice little breeze very gently blowing on us so it was pleasant and not too stifling.

The pier that had been ravaged in September 2022 partly still stands, it will be rebuilt of course, but to see how it had been partially devoured by that one storm was very sad indeed.

i-bf7dTfs-X2.jpg

Looking the other way was much nicer today, skies were bluer and sands looked golden, but we could see some cloud moving in, it had been forecast and we hoped to miss it later.

i-8N3zcJ7-X2.jpg

Shoes off, we wandered a little along the beach, but we didn`t spend too long today and we didn`t splash in the water either, I think we`re too wary to do that now!

i-F4vCQxt-X2.jpg

Of course the pier is fenced off which is such a shame as it was a very vibrant and busy pier populated by a mixed crowd of fisherman, families and so many other folks.

The man who used to take the money to enter it didn`t charge us last time we were here which was very kind of him, it`s not expensive to go on it, but it was a kind gesture. We had just lost our wonderful Queen Elizabeth and he was a huge admirer of her and said he wasn`t taking our money. One man chatted to me and completely took me by surprise by saying he was so sorry for our loss and spoke so endearingly of our Queen, I didn`t expect it and did get a little feeling of welling up by his kind words as we are Royalists, well, for some of them, certainly not all of them, but her loss was felt by so many for sure.

i-mDsZqLS-X2.jpg

We look forward to seeing it when it has been fully restored.

We walked back over to the car and headed home, we drove into some very ominous looking clouds and it got steadily darker and darker when very quickly the rain came pounding down, it`s always quite alarming to drive in rain that has such intensity as we rarely get anything like this, but everyone slowed down....well, there`s always one, but he passed us and just disappeared.

We did see the funniest thing though although I do feel a little guilty for laughing so hard but it was hilarious!!

I hadn`t noticed it as I was fiddling on my phone, but Tom said oh look at them to the right of us 🤭

I looked out and there was this open topped two seater with two miserable looking people in it who were just getting drenched while yelling at each other!!!

I`m sorry but I laughed, hard!!!

i-Qpr6Nmk-S.gif

We presumed the top was stuck as no one would drive like that through choice in this weather and really, there was nowhere to get off at this point, but the first chance they got they left the road still arguing!!!! oops.

Tom said I was a mean lady, but he smirked too!!!

Within the next few minutes we drove into sunshine again and the roads got back to normal and we made it home safely, parked the car, got showered, changed then headed over to the Club Lounge.

We were staying onsite tonight so we could both enjoy a glass or two of sparkly in the lounge although I think Tom had a beer, one of the local ones they offer seasonally, he said it was nice.

There were plenty of folks who were chatty tonight and that`s always nice, one lady said she remembered us from last Christmas, I honestly couldn`t place her until she said I had amused her toddler and made her smile when she was grizzling, then I remembered her and the toddler too!!! Nice lady and the little one was a lot happier this trip.

The usual options were here tonight and we did enjoy a little of the food after a while, they had one of our favourite lounge dishes tonight, the char sui pork which is gorgeous!!!

We never touch the rice, I`m not really a fan of rice, only in certain dishes like curry, but this kind I didn`t like, especially as it has peas in it which is a veg I`m not overly fond of anyway. But, I think this pork dish would be better served with lo mein, although maybe not as I think I`d eat too much of it then, I love noodles!!!

We had some, but not too much, then made the mistake of going back for another taster.....well, no big dinner later now. We had planned to go back to either HRC or Vivo but now, we would make do with a snack later.

A lady tonight asked us again about tipping in the lounge and yes we do tip. I know some people don`t tip at all, but we tip every night, we hand cash to one of the team and it goes into a team tip they share out. It`s not expected from the staff but it is a nice gesture as they do look after everyone so well and it is very much appreciated.

So, we headed off downstairs to say goodbye to one of our lovely American kids before heading into Citywalk.

More to follow!!

we saw what everyone had been seeing all these years.

We do miss that show as it was very good, we didn`t see it often but did enjoy it.
It seriously pains me to walk thru that now “abandoned” area. It needs repurposed, pronto
The Talking Fountain deserves his own spot, this is a fabulous way to pass 10 minutes or so talking to him and he does interact really well with kids and adults alike.
Truly, talented staffing there. Impressive how they manage to hold the floor when a rotter of a kid pipes up…the sort with a wing-man of a parent encouraging their behavior.
some kids don`t know who Popeye is anymore, they still seem to enjoy it.
Believe he is following Winnie the Pooh & steamboat mickey into the public domain this year…a sub-par horror movie is sure to surface…then the kiddos will know him lol
full fat coke
Which cries for full fat rum :). We have a mixed family here, keep Pepsi & coke stocked for all. I’m lucky if I drink a can a month.
After a couple of hours we sloshed back to the boats and got back home where the shower was our first port of call.
Haha perfect way to describe one’s exit after IoA’s water rides
Tom ordered a Fanta
Find it interesting how Fanta = orange pop in the south. Here, with that order, you’d be asked what flavor. I’m partial to Moon Mist (a Mt Dew knockoff better than the real deal).
I was getting flashbacks to The Walking Dead.
Lololol
