Now you and your traveling partners can save big on airfare and car rental. This spring, you will have the opportunity to fly and drive and see more of America for less. Currently Hertz, Avis and Budget need to get cars out of Florida, and if you are willing to rent a car in Florida and drop it off at select U.S. airports across the country, you will save some major bucks.
The trick is to find a cheap one-way airfare to Florida. We suggest the airfares to Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers, West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale.
P.S. If you live in Florida, you can always do it backwards by driving the car out and flying back.
Hertz has the cheapest weekly rate starting at $9.99 a day or $89.99 a week for an Economy car. Hertz also has the longest car rental maximum of 14 days, but the shortest program period - April 1-May 15, 2005. Check the chart below for Hertz rates for all classes of car rentals. Hertz allows cars to be dropped off in 26 states: Those states are: Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington (DC). Drop-off locations in North Carolina and South Carolina are limited.
Avis and Budget have the best value on a family minivan. Rates for a minivan start at $14.99 a day or $104.65 a week. They also have the shortest rental maximum of seven days, but they offer the program through June 30, 2005. Avis and Budget permit drop offs in most locations in the 48 continental U.S.A., except California. So if you live in Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas or Tennessee for example, you can drop off a car with Avis or Budget, but not Hertz.
