Better yet.....just listen to the preflight instructions. The flight attendants will give instructions as to what electronics are ok to leave on and what aren't.

If you have the space, I would. What happens if:

* Your electronic drops and breaks?
* Your flight is delayed and your battery drains before you can charge it?

I assume you mean you want to read a book on a kindle or Ipad to keep you calm?

If so - perhaps you should purchase a paperback book or magazine to fly with or visit your local library and rent one?

Although.... as has been stated many times small electronics including I pad and Kindle can be used in airplane mode at all times during domestic flights.

If you need to distract yourself, then sure, bring a book with you. Although, I believe the kindle or iPad can be kept on if it's in airplane mode....that has been the case on my flights.

Sorry I panicked when my parents said I was flying in July and it took me by surprised normally I have a year to prepare to get ready for a trip

Try not to panic! You still have 5 months, in which you can do a lot of prep. Do you have a kindle or nook or some sort of e-reader? If so, unless something very strange happens, you will be able to use it the whole time you are on board the airplane. I use mine to distract me during takeoff--I sit down, turn it on, and listen to my MP3 player. The whole world goes away. Otherwise buy a book or magazine that you will look forward to reading, and save it for the flight. You will be fine! If I can do it, you can!!
