Flushing (not the town) question

After witnessing Tony Soprano flush a urinal with his foot, I wondered how many other people do this. Which by the way, he showed some very impressive flexibility to get his foot up that high!

So, I'll go first....

I will always flush a public toilet with my foot but will most likely use my hand to flush a urinal. I'd have to be a Rockette for some of those things.

Then I got to thinking about the hand washing habits of some people. If they don't wash their hands, the door handle will be "dirty". If they do wash their hands, they would first have to touch the faucet handle to turn it on. So, now the handle is "dirty" and after washing your hands, you have to touch it to turn if off, so your hands are dirty after washing them.

It seems to be a viscious circle. Now I have to go wash my hands, again.

Thank goodness the Disney parks have self flushing and self operating toilets/urinals and sinks.

I always turn off the water with the paper towel that I used to dry my hands. When leaving the restroom, I have a habit of grabbing the handle on the highest point. Its a little awkward to pull it that way, but I figure it has a lot less "stuff" up there. :p

Ideally: Flushes and sinks have sensors. For the door- carry the papertowel you dry your hands with to the door, open door with paper towel and toss the towel just as you clear the door (hopefully a trash can is by the door)

Otherwise...flush with foot, turn off sink with paper towel after washing and open door with method described above.:)

I am a total PUBLIC foot flusher! Ewwwwwwwww.

I have a fear of public bathrooms. I am ok at hotels (ones that are clean) but never at a restaurant, park, other peoples houses...YUCK!

I use to leave work on my lunch break to go home and potty. I worked in a small office..but the mailman would use our bathroom! YUCK!

Always flush with my foot and always turn off the faucet and open the door with a doubled up dry paper towel. People are too nasty these days.

I have taught my kids the "flush with foot" method. Also the "shut off water with paper towel method". Then we take another paper towel to open the door. If there is no paper towel I turn off the faucet with the back of my hand or my elbow, and grab the doorhandle with my sleeve over my hand. Hope this doesn't sound too paranoid!!..........................P

Ok, I don't mind touching flush handles and such but after I thoroughly wash my hands, I don't touch anything. Here's my m.o.:

1. Forward paper towels
2. Wash hands
3. Dry hands, use towel to turn off water
4. Use towel to open door

At work, we have to go through a secondary hallway door before returning to our work area. I just carry the paper towel with me until I get back to my desk.

Yes, my co-workers consider me a little strange.

Which reminds me of the time that my DD and I were in a ladies room of a restaurant when the power went out. The restroom was PITCH DARK. The only way to find our way out (first visit to this restaurant so not familiar with restroom door locations) was to grope along the walls..... YUCK!! But we had no choice. I was really surprised there were no emergency lights in the ladies room. We were both in stalls when it happened and DD was so afraid she couldn't pee!....................P

I wash hands BEFORE going into stall. Than, I use damp Paper Towels that I used to dry my hands with, and wipe seat off and handle on toilet. I do my business, and than flush with my ONE index finger!:o I exit bathroom, wash hands AGAIN, and use Paper towel to Push/Pull open door!:p Sounds weird doesn't it?

I use my foot to flush. With faucets, I like the automatic ones or ones with the long levers. I can nudge the lever with my arm. When I leave the restroom, I use a paper towel when pulling the door open.

That's why I like Disney bathrooms. You don't have to touch the handle to flush!

We do different things.

DH wont touch anything in a men's room without a paper towel..he has the flexability to foot flush...

If there is only those blow dryers- we leave the water running....then use our sleeve to open the door.

If theres papertowels- we use them to shut off water, and open doors...we also get the papertowels BEFORE we turn on the water, and stick them under our arm..

DD's and I also foot flush the toilets...and DDs were taught how to wipe off the seat with toilet paper, without getting there fingers on the seat etc...

Some women are just plain pigs- as evident by womens rooms! but I've been told by DH that mens rooms are 1000X worse!

Well, I don't know about that. I've been told just the opposite. Like Rita Rudner says, guys are just happy to hit anything.

:teeth:

But, Brandy, if you get the paper towel before you wash your hands then you have contaminated the paper towel with the pre wash germs ;)

I really don't sweat it that much.

I go in, do what I have to do, wash my hands and then get out again. I will try to open the outside door using a part of the handle that most people would not use or using a sleeve. But if it is not possible I don't stress about it.

Germs are our friends, they help to make us strong enough to withstand other germs (if you are reasonably healthy to begin with)

Cruisin' - I completely agree with you!! ::yes::

It just amazes me how serious some people are about bathroom germs. Your hands may be germ free for about 2 seconds after you leave the bathroom, if you proceed to touch anything else: the back of a chair in a restaurant, the door to get out of the building, an item in a store in the mall, the salt/pepper shaker at a table, just ANYTHING that ANYONE ELSE HAS TOUCHED will have GERMS!!! You CAN'T avoid 'em!!!

That said, I'm not too paranoid when using a public restroom. I thoroughly wash my hands with warm soap and water when I'm finished, and I don't touch my eyes or nose or mouth.
