Flu Shot

Roughly 40% of the people who do get the vaccine and are then exposed are going to get the flu. Anybody who gets the flu, vaccinated or not, should stay home if they are sick obviously. But people are contagious before they exhibit symptoms so getting hysterical about the non-vaccinated staying home is silly.

The vaccinated person who comes down with the flu has been shown to be less sick for a shorter duration than a non-vaccinated person who will be spreading the virus to others for a longer period of time. It's still worth getting the vaccine not even just for yourself, but for those around you.

I am interested in this statistic, how does it compare with unvaccinated people who are exposed to the flu? what percentage of them get sick? Like I know we had a few unvaccinated people in our house over Thanksgiving who did not get sick even though my son had flu confirmed by swab, type b, and then I got it :(

The stat from the CDC is that those who get the flu shot, if exposed to the virus, are 60% less likely to develop the flu. I may be wrong, but I don't think that actually means that 40% will get the flu since it deals in "likelihood." I don't think it would be possible to put a number to those who are unvaccinated because none of us know if we've been exposed or not.

We got the shot this year. The season is supposed to peak when track season starts for my kids, and I figured "can't hurt, might help."

I got my flu shot in October and I still came down with the flu this past week. It does seem to be less severe though.

I've never gotten the flu shot, never had the flu (knock on wood).
