I am seeing the Transplant team this morning, and I am wondering if they are going to give me my annual flu shot this visit or the next one. Anyway was just wondering if you plan on getting one this year?

It is awfully early to get a flu shot, especially for someone on the east coast, isn't it??? We get them since the kids have asthma. They usually want us to wait as long as possible, end of Oct or into Nov so they last through the flu season. I know last year the influenza hit our area really late, March-usually her in January--and people that got their shots in October came down with the flu because the effectiveness of the shot wore off.

I'm still not in any target group, so will pass again this year.

:thumbsup2 I will. As a nurse in a pediatric hospital, its either get the shot or get the flu. Knock on wood, it's worked every year or I've been very lucky. We start getting them mid October.

No, I've never gotten one nor have DH or DD. We're all healthy w/o any respitory issues so as far as our doctor and we are concerned there isn't any reason for it.

My daughter will get one like she does every year after Oct 1st.

We've never gotten the flu shot. 2 years ago when there was a shortage, we wanted to get the vax, but couldn't get it. Luckily we didn't get the Flu, but a few people I know that got the vax, got the Flu. :confused3 It may have been a differnt strain. Who knows.

If they have another flu shot clinic here at school, then yes. I live in a dorm. Stuff spreads like wildfire. I got one last year, and it did keep me healthy. I was exposed to the flu

I've always declined because I'm not in any target group. But this year my employer is suggesting everyone get vaxed as an avian flu precautionary measure. I guess I will.

I will get it in October because of my RA. Hopefully the Dr. will have plenty to go around this year.

If my company offers it for free at the health fair like always, then yes.

Yes, I will get the flu shot. Last year my ds 5 got the shot because he has asthma. My daugter and I did not and we both got the flu.

If you catch the flu and go to the doctor within the first day or two they can give you something that lessens the symptoms (TAMIFLU). We didn't realize we had it so, it was too late by the time we went to the doctor.

BTW if you are exhausted (feel like a truck hit you), aches, fever, etc. you might have the flu and not a "regular" virus.

My company also provides them for free (usually in October) so I'll probably get one. I spoke with my doctor last year and she said that while I'm not in the "target" group, it probably wasn't a bad idea to get one.

Yes. Luckily, my company offers them for free to any interested employee. I have gotten one every year since I have worked here - except a couple of years ago when there was the shortage.

I get them every year and two of my four kids get them and dh don't.

I got one last year because I was teaching and DS ends up hospitalized with respiratory infections that induce severe asthma attacks. I'm home with him this year, so I don't know if I'll opt to get one. He'll get one for sure.

I'm torn. I was dx with asthma this year, so I SHOULD, but I do worry about those "rare" side effects.
