Flu Shot...Are you getting one?

Does the CDC get paid for every flu shot given out?

Sorry I'm at work and tired and completely missed the CDC part..:rotfl:

anyway i do feel in general that a lot of these recommendations are for $$$ (not from the cdc per say but when your dr. just HAS to push that latest vax on you or your kid)

Got mine. I was filling a Rx at Walgreens and the pharmacist can give them. 2 minutes later, $25 poorer and a sore arm, I had a flu shot. I had the flu a few years ago and $25 is worth it to avoid that again.

If someone has a doctor pushing fads or vaccines or anything someone doesn't feel their family needs, then it is time to find a new doctor.

I get one every year because I'm asthmatic and I've also had pneumonia... my doctor recommends that I always get one. I've never gotten sick from the flu shot, ever. The worst I've experienced is some malaise, but that was totally manageable.

I have the oppertunity to get a free flu shot through my work...I work at the airport, and am around a lot of....well lets just say the "Unwashed masses"...and I currently DO NOT have health insurance...I am scared to get the shot because I may get sick from it, and I am worried to NOT get it, as I cannot afford to get the flu...Stuck between a rock and a hard place...

Are you getting one this year?

Yes. I work in health care.

Given your situation, you are MUCH more likely to get influenza from your workplace exposure than you are likely to get "sick" from the vaccine.

I already got mine.

CVS has a deal a few weeks ago where you bought a $30 worth of random stuff (paper towels, laundry soap, etc.) you get a free flu shot. Since I was inevitably going to get the flu shot, and can never get enough paper towels, etc. I jumped at the offer.

I will say, this year my arm hurt a lot more than in years past...

The 1st time I got it was 10 years ago, I spent that night and next day with a fever and body aches. Last year I got it again for free through my employer and spent that night and the next day with a fever and body aches. LOL Never again!

DH and I will get ours early October :goodvibes. Have never had a problem with flu shots and feel an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Nope, we never get them.
I run a day care and am never sick. Literally, like never. Last day I took for illness was a two-day stomach bug when I was pregnant with DS over 10 years ago. The most I ever have is a slight cold. I think I've got immunity to everything thanks to the constant barrage of sick kids??? That's all I can figure since nothing else makes sense.

Now that I've said that, I'll probably get the flu this year and be sick as a dog....

:rotfl2:, yep, hope you knocked on wood:rolleyes1.. We never get one either and we work in medical:rolleyes1:eek::eek::guilty:

Nope. I've never gotten one and don't plan to start. I guess I live dangerously

Nope. Never do. I'm allergic to thimersol. DD received it once when she was a year old and 3 days later was in the hospital with RSV. So nobody here gets flu shots.

my son had rsv as an infant and from that point on, it was recommended that he get the flu shot. and by 'recommended' i mean they practically held us captive in the dr's office until he was given the shot. and every year, for 3 years, within 1 week of getting the shot he was in the hospital with pneumonia. every.single.year. we finally stopped giving him the flu shot and voila! no more pneumonia! he's 9 now and he's never had it since!

Nope. I'm one of the "lucky" few who got Guillian Barre from a flu shot. My kids don't get them either... just in case whatever caused me to get GBS is hereditary. DH will not get his this year for the first time in 22 years... he retired from the military in March. :)

my best friend's mother got guillian barre from the seasonal flu shot when we were in high school. so, so scary. :(

Got mine today. I too work with all kinds of public some don't feel it is necessary to cover their mouths when sneezing or coughing. I have had to do a quick two step more than once to try and get out of the line of fire. Sometimes the public are amazingly annoying.

The "hype" you refer to is pretty insulting to us in the healthcare field. We take care of the ones who are deathly ill as a result of the flu complications. Esp. with H1N1, it was children that would not have died from regular flu, that died from the swine flu.

You make my point. Last year's hype surrounding H1N1 was absolutely nothing like the reality of the outbreak. People were going to be dropping like flies, remember? It was the plague times ten.

If people want to get flu shots, that's fine with me. But the media frenzy surrounding the flu shots is pure hype.

I never had one until 2006 as I was heading to London/Paris for 2 weeks at Christmas. Now I get one every year.
Tomorrow I am getting my flu shot. Free through my physicians office. No appt necessary, just stop in.

I have never had any issues.
