Flu on Disney Dream

Not strictly Disney related, but my Mother used to get sick at the end of every trip we took, this past year we started doing probiotics.... especially in the month or so leading up to a trip, and haven't brought home any nasty bugs.... (knock wood) for the last 3 trips. most recently was 1 week ago.

Try boosting their immunity system with some probiotics before hand...
Thanks for the tip. I have never even heard of probotics but looked them up and they look great. We will definitely try them before our march cruise.

Some folks on my Jan 24 Southern Caribbean on the Wonder got sick with a flu (not noro) as well. Lots of nasty hacks on debarkation day and reports from other cruise passengers. My boyfriend and I were and are fine, luckily. I also bring a pump of anti-bacterial soap for my stateroom, since the bars they provide are not anti-bacterial. I sanitize my cabin with Clorox wipes and am very careful about not touching handrails/elevator buttons/door handles and then touching my face or eating. I have a relatively poor immune system, so I feel like if I can avoid getting sick on a cruise ship with a flu, anyone can. It does take a lot of extra steps but I think it's worth it, but then again when I get sick I get way sicker than most people.

I can't even tell you how happy I am you said this. Any other tips would be great also. I am going to pack wipes too. Probably will wipe down the plane too while I am at it. I was just diagnosed last May with common variable immunodeficiency (out of the blue and a complete surprise) and I now have to be more cautious.

Just chiming in to update everyone. Everyone else in the family recovered except for me and the baby, who ended up being hospitalized this past Monday - Thursday for severe respiratory distress, acute bronchospasm, and hypoxia. He had developed bacterial pneumonia. It was a very scary night for us all but they were able to stabilize him. They were able to determine the exact strain of Influenza A he had and they said it's one that's notorious for developing pneumonia. I went to the ER myself the morning after he was admitted because I had a sneaking suspicion that I might also have pneumonia... and yep!

We're all home and finally on the mend, but man has this been a scary and horrible couple of weeks. It won't stop me from cruising in the future, but I will probably be a little bit more wary about touching things like handrails and doorknobs, etc. I'm already a frequent hand washer, but there's only so much you can do I guess.

I got influenza which progressed into pneumonia about 20 years ago, most people with the "flu" have no idea.

Sorry your sick. But this should be a wake up call for people who didn't get the flu shot. Get the flu shot if you can.
Got off the Dream Feb. 26 and came down with the Flu. Only place I've been was home, ship, castaway, home. Only live a short distance from the port. Had the flu shot in Oct. but there were a lot of sneezy, coughing kids on board and the elevators were packed to capacity. Have not even had a cold in over 10 years....Grrrr. Bringing a hospital mask with me on our May cruise.

* and no, I don't have the tummy bug*

I don't get sick easily, but my ex boyfriend went with me on my last cruise a few year ago and got deathly ill (he has a horrible immune system). He claims it was because we went out of one of the decks with wet hair one night, but I think it was because he didn't wash his hands well enough before eating or touching his face. I didn't even get a sniffle from this same trip, but I like everyone's idea of taking wipes to clean the stateroom with on my sister's birthday cruise in January.
