Flu bug going around at Disney?

I tell people all the time it's a very germ infested place, and it's not that Disney doesn't clean, but it is impossible to keep up with thousands of guests & people from other cultures who visit and have different sanitary practices....and kids being kids. I have never gotten sick, but I have had family members get sick. I always take vitamin c & get a flu shot before I go to wdw.

I am not going to lame Disney, but I caught a pretty nasty bug when I was out there earlier this month. The cruddy thing is that the hotel stores didn't stock any medicine except some PM stuff, which I didn't want to take during the day and be drowsy.

The really funny thing is that I take emergen-c every morning and I don't leave without my hand sanitizer and I still can't keep up away from the germs. ;-)

We just came home Friday evening from our 7 day Disney vacation. 3 of the 4 of us are sick (myself with a sinus infection and bronchitis, my daughter a double ear infection and my son a sinus infection) but we left sunny 90 degree weather in Florida and came home to 66 degrees and rainy.

I hope everyone feels better soon!!!

Just got back on Thursday, as of Friday morning DBF was congested, had a fever, stomach ache and sore throat. Finally gave it up and went to the Dr. today and he has tonsillitis :(

Never came back sick thank goodness, we do the reg vitamins, probiotics, flu shots and keep our hands washed.we would also not think twice about moving are trip if we were sick.its not worth it to have everyone go and be sick the whole time and then there are the make a wish kids and other people with bad immune systems , I would feel guilty knowing we could ruin someone elses trip.WDW is not going anywhere. If we ever got sick while there we would stay in the room until we were better and let housekeeping know to clean our room well for the next guests.

So odd to be reading this, we left Disney on sat morning went to Daytona and started home today. I woke up with a horrid ear ache head ache neck is tender and body is sore. Blahhhh! If I'm not feeling better I'm heading to the dr in am I only have one day before reality hits and I go back to work :(

I have rarely gotten Noravirus or Rotovirus (any of the stomach bugs) *KNOCK ON WOOD*, but I attribute it to eating kimchi my whole life. My Korean mama always said that kimchi will prevent you from getting sick, and I just thought it was folklore, but I found out that it's actually a very good probiotic and that folks should eat it or sauerkraut regularly.

I plan on eating a lot of it before our Disney trip, along w/ adding a diet of green juices, too. Ever since the juicing I haven't hardly gotten the sniffles. It's a crazy immune builder. It's not the most awesome thing I've tasted, but it tastes better than being sick.

Emergen-C ain't got nothin' on a mixture of kale, celery, carrots, spinach, apples and ginger!!

:goodvibes

Whenever they get a +1 on DISBoards, let me know. Greens keep your machine clean! :)

DH caught a cold at WDW and started getting sick within days of us getting home two weeks ago. Then he gave it to me this past weekend. It isn't the flu (we both had flu shots prior to the trip). but it is a nasty cold. Sore throat. Congestion. Sneezing and coughing.

I called it the Brazilian Monkey Flu.

That's our story to - got home on the 27th from a 12 day trip - a day or 2 later Dh had cold symptoms - today seems to be the worst day - I think he's on the mend. DD and I seem to have escaped it (knock on wood). We also had flu shots prior to the trip (lesson learned from our 2010 December trip when I picked up the flu).

I was in the world last week from 9/23-9/28 I was so sick with an awful sore throat, ear ache and cough. Today is the first day I finally feel normal. I was contemplating going to an urgent care when I was down there but I wasn't running a fever and I seemed to be responding well to contact and DayQuil. Hope everyone gets better.

On behalf of the MAW families, THANK YOU for considering them!!! :)

We have had three of our "DIS" kiddos get sick on their trips - that is no fun at all!

We had a friend that flew down for the weekend. They arrived on Thursday. Went to MNNSHP on Friday. Saturday morning her youngest got sick vomiting and they had to go to the ER. She got it later that day, and Sunday morning before flying back home her oldest started vomiting.

The younger one that went to the ER had to sit in the waiting room for a really long time. He was diagnosed with food poisoning. She spoke with CDC from Orange Country today because they have to contact them after being diagnosed with food poisoning?:confused3 She had to tell them all the meals they ate while in Disney.

Regardless, the person she spoke with from the CDC said it was going around really bad!

And as a mother of a child (age 23 child but still...) with a suppressed immune system due to a heart transplant I thank you for this! Even with all the germs she has never gotten sick on a Disney trip except, oddly enough, when she went on her Make A Wish trip. Thankfully we have been able to take her back many other times to make up for that one being pretty awful.

Hope you all feel better soon!!!! Nothing worse than coming down with a horrible virus after enjoying a vacation!

Thank you for the heads up as we go next week, will pack extra virus meds and load up on extra hand sanitizers....

There is a severe stomach virus outbreak in Germany affecting over 8000 children. Not sure if it is any way related, but it does show how quickly these things can spread!

Hope everyone feels better soon!

We were there last week and got the bug. It started on the plane ride home. It's not fun whatever it is.

I don't think this bug is unique to Disney...it is sort of that time of year. The number of antibiotics we have been dispensing has certainly spiked over the past couple of weeks. Lots of bronchitis and other miscellaneous respiratory ailments along with the requisite head colds, ear aches, and sore throats. Pretty sure I overheard a father say today that both of his kids have scarlet fever.

I joke that I must carry a low level of immunity to many things since I work in a pharmacy and hospital and get exposed on a daily basis. But I also take Ester-C and probiotics (I swear Culturelle is some sort of miracle), and I got my flu shot.

Hoping that all who are ill get to feeling better soon and keeping my fingers crossed that we avoid that particular form of not-so-pixie dust!

I think its starting to really circulate everywhere. A school in Illinois was shut down this week due to Norovirus.

oh gosh, I'm taking my 19 month old tomorrow for 9 days...praying she doesn't get sick....argh.. i have wipes/hand sanitizers but it's hard with a little one that puts everything in their mouth.

Here's a tip to all parents. If your kid vomits at the restaurant, don't stay and continue eating at the buffet. Have a little respect for the other families. It's not fair to have your sick kid hugging all over Mickey and pals spreading his germs to all of the other kids.
