I usually cut flowers from my garden and fill vases in my home throughout the summer. I think it brings a bit of summertime right into my home.

I have alot of hot colors in my garden - bright yellows and oranges, blues and purples. I cut a big bouquet about once a week and let the colors fill my home with warmth.

I also cut flowers and bring them to my father's grave. It's a comfort to me....the last summer of his life he spent alot of time in my backyard with my then 2 year old son, watching him while I did some planting and weeding. He was never really a garden person, but I feel like I'm bringing a bit of my backyard as a remembrance to him.

Do you bring your garden indoors?

That's a lovely gesture Gina, bringing flowers that you grew and cared for to your father's grave, a man who cared for you, and watched you grow. Big ((((((( Hug ))))))) to my dear Bud.

I brought lots of lilacs into the house when they were in bloom, the scent was intoxicating! At this particular time, nothing is ready for me to bring inside, but soon I hope!! :) :)

I tend to do this periodically - usually when the roses are blooming I bring in a weekly bouquet for the office and my dining room table. It is particularly nice when the baby's breath is blooming. A sprig or two of baby's breath, a few roses... and voila! Instant bouquet! :D

Your tribute to your father is very touching and hits close to home for me. I spend time with my dad just being "near" him and talking only occassionally. It's funny how we just enjoy being around each other - even if we are not talking about something specific. So I can relate to the good memories you have of having your father near you as you garden. It is the shared time together that is burned into the memory. A tangible sensation of having connected with someone very important to you.

I do this all the time. Love to bring the garden indoors. If it's blooming it isn't safe from me and my garden shears. :D

My mom brings flowers into house all the time. I will cut and bring in the daffodils, and I have brought forsythia in to force bloom early. However, that is about it. I am reluctant to cut for some reason.

I've decided to start doing that this year. I brought several to my Mom and she had fun arranging them....:)

Ditto!!! Son brought home carnations the other day and put them in skinny vase and next thing I know, the table was all wet and flowers were on the floor!!!

For some reason I am also reluctant to cut the flowers. I don't know why. Maybe because ours have just really gotten flowers on the plants (really took off this year and the past couple of years I had just replanted from what people gave me). I feel like if I cut them I'm going to kill them and then there will be nothing outside to look at.... :) :) :)

Maybe next year.

I was also reluctant to cut flowers. This year I decided that I would probably enjoy them more around the house since I don't spend a lot of time in sight of my garden. So far have cut two bouquets.

I try to keep a vase full of flowers from the garden throughout the summer. I put it right in the center of the kitchen table. With our busy schedules sometimes it's the only time they get to see what's in bloom. I'm not one to drag my teenage DS out to the garden when "First Kiss" is in bloom. He did mention how he liked it when it was sitting in front of him on the table though.
I think it so touching to bring flowers to your Dad. I wish I could but distance prevents it. My Mom is always in my thoughts when I'm in my rose garden. I planted her favorite rose Peace in her memory there.
