Has anyone tried the CD programs where you can take a picture of your house and then land scape around it? This is our first spring in our home and I am really feeling the need to do some planting but I have no talent in what would look good together. thanks

ooohh I didn't even know these existed. Every year I change my landscaping because I can never get ot too look like what I picture in my mind (and I'm too cheap to hire a designer). I would love to see what people have to say about those.

I have purchased those pre-planned gardens before and they never came out like the picture, but that was because I never found a house that looked like mine and I had to alter it a bit. Have you ever thought of using one of those?

Unless there is a part where you select your Growing zone-it might choose plants that dont grow where you are.

Before I landscaped-I drove around the higher end areas of my city getting ideas. I think the hardest part is not realizing how large some plants get when they mature.:)

Landscaping is my hobby. So I have never used a program. Are you looking to plant perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs?

I am in yr 2 of this house and slowly getting there. I suppose the issue I have with the "programs" is that is does not take into account how your flower bed is, plant growth/type, availability, bloom times, fall color, etc. and your level of care.

If you have "sticks or poles" you can use those for "height". I do that a lot.

When you do buy something you don't plant it right away. You kind of set it there and look at the look and move it around.

Plant in odd numbers of three/five unless your house is ultra formal and you are going for that look.

Right now you can plant pansies, phlox, ground covers, etc...So which reminds me, I need to run to Home Depot this morning since I saw the plants are in!!! Thanks!:yay:

Which means you have spent more because you don't have a plan. :lmao:

We have a good friend that is a landscape architect. He will do a plan for around $200, if you want the work done by him and his crew, obviously that is extra but the $200 is subtracted from the final cost, otherwise it is $200 to buy the plan if you want to do the work yourself. I would try to find someone like that if you are starting from scratch.

So I could just hire someone to do a plan and figure out what plants/flowers are the best and then I can go and get them? I wish I knew that because you are right, in the 9 years I have been here I have spent waaayyyy more than $200 on planning my gardens :headache:

All landscape companies will do this as far as I know. I haven't seen one around here that doesn't.

I would love to have someone plan my landscape for me!! And $200 isn't bad either!! That way I can slowly and at my leisure add stuff when my budget allows it.

I'll have to call around and look into that!

I like the idea of the preplanned gardens but I first need to decide where to put the gardens. I would pay $200 for someone to help me design my space but I think the computer program would be fun. In Maine it is still to early to plant so I have time to look into this. Yesterday at Walmart I did buy a seed starting kit and a few diferenet packets of seeds I like (daisy, coneflower, etc)

I had a garden center come out to our house and draw up a design. It was a free service. We did buy our plants from them (weren't obligated) but did the work ourselves. The plants came with a guarantee.

They had great ideas for our front walk and the natural area around our sunroom.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Maybe in Missouri you can do that now but here in the north they will be dead in hours if you did that.

I have also thought about doing this. I had a landscaper come out to give me a guote to do about 60 feet on one end of my house and he wanted 5000.00:scared1: Forget that! I can do it myself. I didn't even like what he was wanting to do. I agree with having a plan, and placing things before you plant.
