Typhoon Lagoon & The Boardwalk

Monday 22nd August 2005

I wake at 6.45 this morning and beat Joyce to the teapot – did I tell you by the way - Cyril brought it with him!

I sit on the pool deck and soak up the first rays of early morning sun - it's another beautiful day here in Paradise and the silence is bliss.

I take the opportunity before anyone else rises - to sample some of the “healthy” breakfast items that we purchased from Publix.
Hot Fudge and Marshmallow Pop-Tarts followed by a Twinkie, a Zinger and finally one of those delicious Talcum Powder Donuts! Hmm - I can almost feel the cholesterol surging through my body!

Cyril decides he will stay at the villa this morning while we go to Typhoon Lagoon - so we pack up Jaunty and head off down the 192.

We are a bit early so we look for a supermarket to buy some “bits” for the cooler bag and stop off at the Super Target “Theme Park".
Wow - this place is huge! It's like a small country.

I get a fastpass at the donut counter while Ricky goes in search of some mega-whatsit’s and thingame-giga’s in the computer department. (I know – I’m A bit technologically challenged!)

The array of food in here is absolutely staggering - I never knew how many types of Danish Pastries you could get! Cyril will have a field day in this place!

Lena and Joyce head for the clothes department and Hannah is on a mission to hunt down a Gameboy DS and “allow” me to purchase it for her!

She finds one and reports back to the "Bank of Dad".

"It's really good value in here Dad" she grovels!

Oh No! Here come those "Puss in Boots" eyes from Shrek 2 again.

I distract her with a donut and a "we will see - maybe later" –…. .Lie….!

After filling the cooler bag and Ricky spotting some very good prices in the computer department - we vow to return later in the holiday and head off for a date with that strange creature that they call Lagoonagator!

Even Jaunty seems excited - look – he tried to join in by disguising himself a little!

Our plan of attack is the usual - grab a locker - throw what little belongings we bring into it and hit the rides.

We position ourselves just to the right of the park next to the changing rooms - ready for the rope-drop. The sun in really hot today and it's a perfect morning for a spot of "surfin' USA" in the wave pool.

First up is the "Slusher & Gusher" Banana Blaster. I ride with Ricky in front and me on the back - it really is a "Blast"! I did try to take photo’s on the way down but all I got was the top of Ricky’s head and my knees! (Not a pretty sight!)

Then Gangplank Falls to get Joyce's hair a little moist!

Dry Girls……….

Wet Girls……….. Heh! Heh! (One - Nil to me!)

65352img039-med.jpg

(Works a treat!)

We pause for coffee and a cookie at Typhoon Tilly's and listen to the the "Yo - Ho - Yo - Ho - a Pirate Life for Me" music!

I love this music as it always brings back the memories of previous trips here.

It's all very "atmospheric" but - can you imagine working with that all day? It would drive you mad!

The conversation at home would be weird!

"Hello Dear - how was your day?""

"Avast ye mucker - it's the Black Spot!"

“Look – get that flippin’ parrot off your shoulder and stop talking jibberish – your dinner’s ready”

"Arrr, matey, have your parrot call my parrot and we'll one day partake of noontime grub together."

“I’m warning you”

"I don't know as I recall askin' ye for yer thoughts, ye scurvy bilge-drinkin' tar-merchant. Avast yer gob afore I keelhaul ye an' string yer bones from the crow's nest."

SMACK!

"Thar she blows!"

SMACK – BOOT – POKE – THUMP!

OK Luv – Sorry…….!

Amazing what rubbish I can think of to fill these reports isn’t it? Heh! Heh!

We hop into the lazy river for a very relaxing "float" on the tyres. I don't know why we hop – Maybe it’s a Pirate thing! We must look really silly bouncing along on one leg in our swimming costumes!

I took this photo just as Joyce dissapeared through her tyre! (Two - Nil!)

Then on to the Shark Reef. Wow - that salt water is really chilly after being in the bath-like water of the river.

Finally we hit the wave pool.

This place really is paradise isn't it? I love it!

Joyce sits on the rocks at the edge of the pool and watches as we dive about in the surf and we finally join her.

I suggest a move just around the corner for a better view of the waves (Heh! Heh!)

65352img003-med.jpg

Oops! Oh dear - I did not know that would happen! Heh! Heh! Heh! (Three -Nil - Game over!)

Even though we are not the sunbathing types we find this is an excellent place to spend some time. It may not be a full day of relaxing as some would have it but is suits us perfectly.

Three hours and were out.

We drive Jaunty back to the villa and find Cyril on the pool deck with a cup of tea.

We all swim today - even Cyril jumps in for a go on the lilo. "No -not that one Cyril - she's mine!"

It's about 3.00 o'clock before we venture out again so we head for the 192 and have a wander around a few of the shops before settling for a late lunch at International House of Pancakes (IHOP).

Once again - suspicious looks are thrown my way with regard to "spicy foods" being forced upon the unsuspecting parents in law!

All is well though as we surf the menu and find some suitable "plain fare" for all to consume.

I have the Cheese Steak Sandwich with some huge onion rings,

Lena has a Shrimp Caesar Salad, Hannah has Chicken Tenders, Ricky and Joyce have the Three Cheese Omelette and Cyril orders a Pot Roast.

I stop everyone ordering a dessert (much to the disgust of Ricky who thinks I must have food poisoning or something!) and we head off towards Disney for a little surprise that I have been planning.

We drive to the Boardwalk Resort and park Jaunty in the Hotel car park.

This is something new that I thought we would try this year - visit some of the Disney Resorts for a "nose around" - it's free and you don't have to use a park ticket and yet you are still in Disney and get the "magic" feeling without all the crowds.

We stroll through the main entrance and out to the boardwalk around the lake. There is a chap doing magic tricks entertaining a small group of kids and another guy playing Disney tunes on an accordion.
It's a lovely atmosphere.

We pop into the Boardwalk Bakery and drool over various offerings but I am still insistent that nobody shall eat yet. Ricky begins to whimper and clutch his huge stomach as if to suggest a touch of mal-nutrition!

Joyce is not feeling too well at the moment and we slow the pace to a crawl. "There was garlic in that omelette". she declares giving me a filthy look .

I hand her back the filthy look and tell her thanks but I've still got one in my back pack that the kids gave me yesterday! Once again - my humour is as welcome as a fart in an elevator!

Oh dear - an upset stomach is not what I had in mind for this evenings finale!

We slowly make our way round the lake and over to the Yacht & Beach Club and - after admiring the resort - particularly the pool - I steer the party into Beaches & Cream.

We sit ourselves down in a booth and I order drinks and a "Kitchen Sink". The kids have seen a picture of this but the in-laws have no idea of what’s coming.

It's a really cool place - just like a 50's style diner that you see in the movies. We sip our drinks for a while and chat about the day so far until suddenly - the lights dim and start to flash - the waitress starts to shout and holler and in no time at all we are staring into a massive (and I really do mean MASSIVE) bowl of ice cream. There are cherries, bananas, peanut butter, malteesers, m & m's, oreo's, fudge brownies and five flavours of ice cream.

Ricky almost faints with ecstasy and Cyril is having palpitations!

Joyce does a great impression of a comelian and turns a very fetching shade of green!

It all comes in a huge bowl shaped like a kitchen sink (hence the name - Duh!) complete with taps.

Amazingly we finish the whole thing!

I think Cyril may have overdone it a bit!

Ha! - no problemo!

$32 plus tip - well worth it me-thinks.

We stagger out of the diner - buttons from the shorts on my expansive waistline are exploding like fire crackers and are in danger of taking out someone’s eyes!

We sit a while on the benches that surround the lake and soak up the atmosphere while the Reflection fireworks from Epcot are lighting up the skyline.

Another great day and something different experienced by all.

We collect Jaunty from the car park and head for home.

Back at the villa we watch a bit of TV before calling it a night –

"IT'S A NIGHT!" we all shout in unison - and so to bed.

Tomorrow it's Animal Kingdom and then our second ADR for dinner at Boma -

although I don't think that Joyce and Cyril will be joining us at the "Poisons-R-Us" buffet!

The Kitchen Sink looks amazing!!!!

Lovely report, I am glad there were a few of you to help you eat 'the kitchen sink'. Wow what a dessert.

Thank you for posting - so glad you took my advice, and posted in my "works" time. The Gameboy DS made me chuckle, which provokes rather strange looks from my workmates! I keep telling my daughter she can have one when we get to Florida...hoping that she will forget....not likely :rotfl:
