Florida Vs California

I have a question regarding the weather in Florida in comparison to Disneyland during the month of September. Through some quirk of air travel and hotel pricing I'm able to go to either Disneyland or WDW for the same price despite being located nearly 5000 kms closer to Disneyland and I thought I'd consider the option of Florida as I've been to Disneyland 8 or so times and never WDW.

My gf is however concerned about things such as hurricane season which assumedly means it rains more in Florida? After she raised that question, I also wondered as part of the fun of going to LA is escaping the rainy climate I'm exposed to in my hometown (Vancouver, BC).

Thanks.

The weather in LA will be much much drier. But, if you've never been to WDW, and it's usually prohibitively expensive to go, why not try it?

If you have flexibility about when you go, you might consider WDW later in the fall, or perhaps in May. Nice balance of good weather and moderate (but not really "low") crowds.

If you are from Vancouver, you will find the weather in Florida in September unbearably hot and humid.

That said, if the airfare is the same and you have already been to DisneyLand multiple times, I would give DW a try. Just be prepared for the heat.

I grew up in LA and spent alot of my youth at Disneyland. Last trip was this past December. If you have the opportunity to go to WDW, do it! Disneyland is awesome, but there is truly no comparison. The first time I went was 6/2004, and I am absolutely hooked! Disneyland, a day or two trip, WDW is a vacation. :thumbsup2

We are going in September as well. Went that time a couple of years ago and the weather was beautifu, but hot,l with a couple of days of afternoon showers. It certainly rains in Florida, no getting around it. One minute you could be under beautiful bright blue skies, and 10 minutes later you are running for cover. :teeth: We get that in GA too. :rolleyes2

Have a great vacation whatever you decide.

Denise

There is never any way to tell whether or not we will be having a hurricane when you are at WDW, but I would definately do it if you have never been.

We have been to both, and there is no comparison. There is so much to see and do at WDW. Wonderful restaurant options. You will love it.

As far as the rain, well, rain in FL means 5 minutes in the afternoon, lol and then the sun shines again. Definately doesn't mean days and days of rain. Now, if there is a hurricane coming, that is a different story, but you can't worry about that. Other than that..weather in September in Orlando is wonderful.

It doesn't rain any more in Orlando than it does in Vancouver. What's that old joke--"Vancouver's got beautiful weather--when it's not raining."

It IS more humid and certainly warmer. There's SO mush more to WDW than there is to DL, you'll be amazed.

As far as hurricanes, true, we do get them now and then. But Southern California gets earthquakes. At least with hurricanes you have time to prepare.

I will start this off by saying how much I love DL. If you had never been to either spot I would tell you to go to DL. But since you have been there numerous times I would say go for WDW. Yes it will be hot and humid, nothing like Vancouver (I mean nothing) and very different from Southern CA.

But despite some negative weather concerns, WDW is awesome, and if you have never been you should go! We have been during that time and we always manage to have a ball despite the shocking climate change.

We first went to WDW when we were living in Oregon (Portland area). Like you, we had previously been to DL 7 or 8 times, and Florida was far, far, away. (Nothing is close to the Pacific Northwest, lol).

We had some extra $$, I read about WDW, decided to plan our "last" big trip as a family (we were moving to TX soon & oldest DD was a junior in high school).

Yes it was hot & humid (not too bad though, honest, avg around mid 80s, just drink water & wear a hat!). Yes it was more expensive. But there is nothing like it! I can't describe the feeling when you pull off the regular road onto WDW property. You immediately notice you are in a different world, and the level of detail and overall execution of the theme is so outstanding that you feel that way the entire time you are there. There is so much to do! The resorts are so cool! Love AK & Epcot & MGM! (MK too of course).

We went on another trip there the next year, not with the whole family, and are currently planning a 3rd trip for October this year (I did say it was expensive!). We did go to DL last summer (both DL & CA), did enjoy it, but it just whetted my thirst for WDW (hence this year's trip).

I highly recommend it, even for cold-blooded northwesterners.

BTW, another good time to go is winter, Jan - early march, you won't think it is cold. We have been in March & in October, I do prefer October due to MNSSHP & Food & Wine festival.

We live within a long days drive to DL and have been many times. One year we decided to try WDW and were hooked. We have now been 11 times. We have been in August and October and planning a September 2007 trip. We don't worry about the hurricanes and figure that Orlando is quite a ways inland and even if a hurricane blows through they normally only get the outer bands of it. We did get to Orlando the day that Hurricane Mitch was just leaving. It rained really hard and the wind blew but they the next morning it was lovely. Go to DW you will love it!!

Thank you very much for all the information, it kinda sounds like the south pacific to me with the hot humidity and daily showers. I will go to WDW and check it out, only thing left to do is hit the travel agent today.

Thanks for all the heads up and comparisons, I'll definately know what to bring and I won't be disapointed or frustrated with the weather knowing, ahead of time what its likely to be.

Thanks again everyone!!!
