So many people say "Yuck! Why are you going to Florida in August; it's going to be so hot!" Well folks, I'm in CT and it has been in the 90's and humid for the past 3 days and the next 3 days are forecasted to be 100 and humid. So, I say.....What's the difference???????
Please tell me your hot FLA weather experiences and what you did to keep cool???!!!
:listen:

This is going to be our first trip in the summer also( usually go in the cooler months) and we get the same reaction! My reply is what's the difference... it's been 90-100 and humid as heck here(NY)for weeks! My dh laughs and says they're just jealous!! :cool1:

I live in PA but spent 3 years in southern FL... The primary difference is the nighttime temp stays hotter in FL, so you feel like you can't get away from the heat.

I've found one of those hand held misters with ice water do the trick. Disney in the heat is better then no Disney at all!

I hear you! We are sweating it out up here in MA-- and we leave tomorrow! Plus at Disney we have a pool, :yay: !
Pack your misters (or buy them outside the parks at Winn Dixie, etc.) freeze some water bottles every night, and take swimming breaks every afternoon----with a nice cold beverage by your side :woohoo:

I agree!
Twice I have been in WDW (3/98 & 7/02) when it has been hotter here in Boston than it is there. I'll got o WDW any time I can, although I do prefer the summer over the winter. Wearing winter coats and gloves while waiting for the parade, isn't ideal. ;)

We're going soon too, and I keep checking the weather, and there's not much difference between Orlando's weather and where our group is coming from!

Bobbi :goodvibes

Our last two trips to WDW were in August - I love it then! There is so much air conditioning blasting out of the attractions and shops that it kept me cool while I walked down the sidewalk on Main Street at MK.

It does stay a bit warm at night, which is why we go back to our resort late morning, nap or swim (or both!) then get lucnh, then head bak to the parks at dinner time for more rides, a late dinner, and more rides. I love how late the parks stay open in the summer.

Us too! We leave this Thursday for a 17 day trip to the world! Its really hot here in Boston so I don't expect much difference except we will be having fun instead of working. We usually spend our days by the pool and then go for dinner and spend the evening in the parks. The nice thing about this time of year is the parks are open late!

It's been so humid this year in PA that I think FL will be a relief! We've gone in August for 4 years now and the heat can be intense, but there are so many ways to get relief (water rides, a/c, frozen cokes and mister bottles, pool) that it's bearable. The thunderstorms bother me more than the heat - they get some wicked lightning! They're ususally over pretty quickly, though.

we lived in manchester, NH until two years ago, and the weather is just as awful here now in the portland maine area- no relief all summer, DH went a couple of years ago to orlanado and said it was similar weather. so we are already prepared. it has just been sooooo humid, and now even worse this week.
have a good time, we are headed down in 30 days.
:goodvibes

We live on Long Isalnd and it's HOT! We go to Florida every August and yup it's just as hot as it's been here. We leave in 9 days so we call this heat wave our "Orlando training". I don't find it too much of a problem, we go to an outdoor attraction, then an indoor one to cool off, we use those misting fans,we carry a washcloth from the room to wet and put behind our necks, and drink lots of water. We have a great time! See you in the world. :sunny:

It usually takes me just the first day to get used to the heat and humidity, but as everyone's been saying, we're having "Florida" weather here in Mass.!

Just take it slow in the heat, drink LOTS of water (not tonic, or coffee!), and enjoy the later hours in the park. We also do the early morning EMH hour and get a lot done before the high noon heat. Pick AC'ed restaurants for your meals. Keep ahead of the heat and you'll be fine.

And if you do start to feel like the heat is too much - then it is!!! Go back to your resort and stay in the AC for awhile. Don't push yourself in the heat.

Here in DC this week they're talking 105 degrees without the humidity - with the humidity factored in they're saying 110!!!! :sad2: I hate the heat and humidity but that won't stop me from enjoying WDW in two weeks. Plus, it's liable to be cooler there, anyway!!!

Have a great trip everyone!

We go every August...and every August someone says to me "youre going to Florida in August?".. :confused3 Yes, I am! When I'm on vacation, I want the weather to be hot...unless I'm skiing :teeth:

Advantages to going in August,

1. Better hotel rates!
2. Kids dont miss school.
3. cheap airfare! $133 RT, thank you SW!
4. Free dining!

A Hot Humid Hazy day in Disney is better than a perfect 80 degree one on the cape in my book! :goodvibes

Summer is the best time to go becuase the transition back to the "real world" isn't as much of a shock... no jackets, pants & long sleeves required to step off the plane in Providence. I like staying in flip flops as long as possible! :thumbsup2

Go out early, swim in the afternoon (lots of shade and frozen drinks! non-alcohol of course) Go back out in the evening. For AK bring a damp hand towel for the neck & faces!

Summer for us! We leave Friday and have gone the past few summers and have survived. LOL I love that everything is open and the place is hopping. If I'm going to be hot anyhow I want it to be in WDW!

I have my Internet start page set to give me the current weather where I live (Louisville, KY) and Orlando. This time of year, there's not much difference in the listed temperature and humidity levels of the two.

Still, there's something about the humidity in the WDW that just seems to envelop you. It's almost like a living thing.

I usually don't do well in humidity, but after a while it just seems to cover me and it's no big deal. We just work on staying hydrated (when we stop, we drink water--and when we pass a water fountain, we fill up our bottles again) and exercising warm-weather safety.

We arrive in 5 days and can't wait!

:sunny: It's been hotter up here lately then in Florida :sunny: . This week we might even hit 100 and humid, I find that when down in Florida I go outside more.

Atleast down there you can go to a pool at the resort if you want, everything has a/c. Up here most homes don't, it just seems hotter and more humid.

Last year we were in WDW in June and it was hotter in Michigan. My family teased us that we went to FL to cool down.

This past few days here in MI are hotter than FL. We leave for WDW at the end of the month and figure we will be used to the heat.

I just hope the the hurricanes stay away. To me it's been a "freaky" summer for the whole U.S.
