Many of you know that my mom lives in Punta Gorda and was hit hard by Charley. You may also know that she is a cancer patient and has not been doing well of late.
Well, I finally got down there on Thurs.9/9 (flew into Ft Meyer). Friday AM we had to take a trip to the ER with mom (knee problem unrelated to her cancer). We did the ER because there were no doctors in their offices on Friday! While waiting at the hospital we decided to evacuate...back to Cincinnati!
After the ER we quickly packed up and left Florida. We averaged only 30 miles per hour up through Tampa, but did much better after that. We could not find a hotel room before Macon, Ga. so ended up driving until 1AM. Poor mom was a trooper through it all. She was across the back seat so she could keep her leg up in her immobilizer. It was a bit of an ordeal at the rest areas. At one stop she fell over backwards and hit her head on the pavement
. Her DH and I learned to walk behind her after that. Fortunatly no serious injury from the fall.
So we are here in Cincinnati, unexpectedly. Riding out the hurricane.

I'll keep thinking the good thoughts for you and your Mom.
