Many of you know that my mom lives in Punta Gorda and was hit hard by Charley. You may also know that she is a cancer patient and has not been doing well of late.

Well, I finally got down there on Thurs.9/9 (flew into Ft Meyer). Friday AM we had to take a trip to the ER with mom (knee problem unrelated to her cancer). We did the ER because there were no doctors in their offices on Friday! While waiting at the hospital we decided to evacuate...back to Cincinnati!

After the ER we quickly packed up and left Florida. We averaged only 30 miles per hour up through Tampa, but did much better after that. We could not find a hotel room before Macon, Ga. so ended up driving until 1AM. Poor mom was a trooper through it all. She was across the back seat so she could keep her leg up in her immobilizer. It was a bit of an ordeal at the rest areas. At one stop she fell over backwards and hit her head on the pavement  . Her DH and I learned to walk behind her after that. Fortunatly no serious injury from the fall.

So we are here in Cincinnati, unexpectedly. Riding out the hurricane.

Sending prayers and pixie dust to you and your mom! My mom had cancer so I know that dealing with that alone is tough, but with these crazy hurricanes, I am sure you are both just ready to scream. Don't let it get you down though! Enjoy your visit with your mom! Take care and if you need anything, just let us know!

Wow, that had to be tough on you guys, especially your mom. I hope that she is resting comfortably now. Even if Ivan doesn't affect her area, the change of scenery will be good for her.:sunny:

You have so much going on.:( I'll keep thinking the good thoughts for you and your Mom.

That must have been a difficult trip. Glad she's okay after her fall. :( Bless you all!! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/17/17_1_10.gif' alt='Prayer' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/17/17_1_10.gif' alt='Prayer' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/17/17_1_10.gif' alt='Prayer' border=0></a>

YIKES! That sure is a rough way to evacuate! It is great that you all can be together now and maybe your mom can relax just a bit....my folks called today to give me the red cross number for the shelter thay are scheduled to evacuate to if needed:( my mom has health issues also and they need to notify the RC of special needs ahead of time. Maybe you all can enjoy your Cincy visit even tho it isn't in Fl!

Thanks so much for the good thoughts, everyone. I needed a good ole dis hug and you guys did not disappoint. :)

Mom is resting comfortably in our first floor guest room (thank you DH for insisting that we modify our floorplan to include not only a first floor guest room, but also a full bathroom) at the moment while my DH and mom's DH are installing grab bars in the shower. And, well...you know what I am doing ;) !
